These pics show Dragon's T-34/76 Model 1941 with blast/shrapnel damage to the hull rear and engine deck area caused by exploding shrapnel. The damage is meant to replicate subsequent fire damage and abandonment of the vehicle.

I tried to replicate Air Warrior's recent on site "Toasted Turrett" article, but did not have the pigments necessary to really pull it off. The damage here is the result of layers of rust/rail brown paints, (flecked with fine dust), with the white burned out look coming from wet powdered baking soda worked into the shrapnel holes. The rear hull exhaust pipe (copper tubing) is meant to look like its partially blown off and burned.

The damage is loosely based on the attached pic gleaned from the site "The Russian Battlefield", with some artistic license thrown in on my part.

The 34 will go on a small base, clearly abandoned, with perhaps a lone Russian trooper walking by. This is for the Big and Beefy campaign. Still lots and lots to do on this one as one side of the hull will show blast damage, destroyed links and road wheels etc (again, loosely based on an actual pic). This is the first time I've really tried something like this.

My appreciation to your for looking.

Steve

I tried to use this actual pic as a basis for the model damage.

This is an over head view of the engine deck. The grill is the kit supplied pe piece. The hatch is off centered to replicate movement from an internal engine area blow out.

The damage to the exhaust here is loosely based on an actual pic. The exhause pipe is a distressed piece of copper tubing.

Steve once again your mastery of the brush comes to the fore and you have created a masterpiece.

I honestly wish you lived next door so that you could paint my models for me.

cheers

Very realistic.
Honestly if I didn't know it was a model I would think it was real.
Awesome !

Wow thats very nicely done damage Steve. For your rust look, did you use MIG pigments or you created your own mixture?
