No rivets im afraid!
Heres a few pics of a US Marine figure im working on. Im very pleased with this figure as it is my first real half decent job at painting a figure and its quite pleasing to finally see myself painting half decent figures. Its a Hobby fan figure from one of the Hue sets(courtesy of a figure trade with heavyarty). All done in acrylics and weathered with pastels to give colour variation. This chap will be going into a Hue diorama with a Medivac taking out wounded men whilst these fresh troops provide cover fire from behind a broken wall. I want to have something like a park gate with the troops fireing inot the built up area, and maybe use MIGs burnt out civi car, with some more marines using it as cover.
Thanks for looking

Wonderful OD. The shadowing is great. The beard and mud are really well done. You should be proud of this one.
The stock of the weapon looks bent. In my opinion the weapon looks a bit to over highlighted. But that could be the photo or just me.

As with Scott, I like the flesh and clothing a lot. Very well done. The M16 looks wrong. There's definitely a bend at the stock and the moderator/flash suppressor.
I ust did some googling on hte M16. Your guy appears to be holding the CAR-15 SMG variant, which, according to Wickidpedia, would have been issued to SEALs and other Special Forces. Doesn't preclude a Marine from having one, but it woulld appear to be non-standard.
I will accept correction from any (and I'm sure there are plenty) more and better informed members.

Thanks for the comments guys. As I have just found out over on ML aswell the CAR15 is wrong. The whole gun is bad infact. AS you have both said it is bent, thats becuase it wouldnt fit so it got a little mad with it and just rammed it in I will replace the gun with an an M16.
Interestingly as you say the CAR15, (its also a colt commando isnt it? or very similar) was issued to special forces and MACVSOG teams, however in the book 'The Cage' written by a British nam Vet (cant remember his name) he says he obtained a CAR15 and used it throughout his service, and I believe he was in the cav. So it could be possible to obtian one of these, i guess if you had some sort of rank. Still i'll go with the M16.

According to Wikidpedia, there were a number of guns in the CAR-15 family.

Thanks for your praise guys! Mallory-I used Vallejo colours and the main colours I used were olive green, US field drab(mixed with OG to create OD) and USSR unifrom green, these were mixed differently-I cant remember how, to creat different shades. All uniforms are different in colour so its not too important. The most important part is the coverage of olive green pastel to give the matt effect the blend allt he colours.

Excellent highs and shades on the equipment and clothes Rob. Nicely blended as well.

I did notice in the 3rd. pic the back of the arm his right arm there appears to be a strip or line. The same thing appears in the back of the left arm in the 4th pic as well. Could be just my eyes too.

Apart from that minor thingy and the rifle butt as mentioned by others you've done very well fleshing out the details.

Milatary designation M-4

Currently, yes. M4 is the modern version.

In Vietnam it was called the XM-177, a.k.a. CAR-15 (Carbine Automatic Rifle-15) based on their AR-15 civilian model M-16/ M16A1 designation. It was also called a Colt Commado.

It was a little different as well, as the M-4 is a Carbine M16A2 with heavier barrel, tighter rifling, improved flash suppressor, and other A2 improvements.

Biggest external difference is the flash suppressor and longer barrel on the M4. M4 also has removable carry handle with Picatanny Rail for attaching different sights, and newer adjustable rear sight set-up like the M16A2.
