I don't think its that bad -- You have the red clay right, you might want to vary the shade a bit and have some mud thats still drying or of a different consistency. Its just a bit much all in one shade. You might want to try a wash then re-apply your "red clay" mud. I built a M163 Flammmer and did it that way and I like dthe way it turned out.

I think it looks very good and the mud on the sides is realistic. I'm only quite curious how that mud jumped on the mg shield
