Nicely done, the hatch interiors look the wrong color, but overall the weathering and dirt build up look very convincing.

Hi Robin

are you sure? It would be easy to change but I always thought the tank interior (Germany WW2) is "off white". I am open to suggestions but could you please lead me to a source?

BTW This time I have a figure to go with the model...

cheers

The inside of hatches are normally the base color of the exterior.

Steffan, you're right to say that the interior colour was an off-white colour (together with grey-green and sometimes red primer) but the insides of hatches were usually painted the same colour as the outside of the AFV.

White hatches tend to compromise the camouflage just a little (as your photos show )

Hi Robin and David

Thanks for your comments. It sound logical, although I would not drive around with an open hatch in a combat area ... that would not only

tend to compromise the camouflage just a little (as your photos show )

but the whole concept of armour

the paint will have to dry for some days (I unfortunately used oils on the hatch) but it gives me the chance to do some more research :-) :-) :-)

AFV commanders have to strike a balance between protection and being aware of what is going on around them. With the hatches closed, visibility is severely reduced and with it the ability to detect any threat to the vehicle. Looking at the Jagdpanther the crew are almost blind with the hatches shut as there are only a few periscopes and these are high up above the ground. Most tank commanders accepted the risk of going head-out as it gives a much better chance of spotting targets and viewing the terrain the AFV has to cross.

Hope this makes sense

The bottom picture on the page in the link shows what can happen if the crew doesn't pay enough attention to what is going on around them......

Hi David

Thank you for your further comments! They make sense.

In case I was not clear enough: I believe you both! and my comment above was not meant too serious. :-) :-) :-)

Still I have asked some friends if white was possible ... every correction bears the chance to mess up .... I will surely take that chance, so I better avoid it

best wishes

Don't worry, I got your drift

This is the only wartime colour photo of a Jagdpanther I can think of, sadly it doesn't quite show the hatch interior in enough detail

Hi all

I have done some updates to my model. It now has sand yellow hatches and was treated well with white and grey oils and earthy pigments.

Additions:

1. on advice I painted the Notek sand yellow and gave it a power cable

2. painted another tracks pair on the other side in metal

3. added one towrope (the other will follow soon

To Do: repairing some minor glitches as the glossy blotches near the tow cable mount, adding antenna wire ... reglueing parts I break off during further handling ;-)

cheers

Nice job, weathering looks good.

You could have gone w/ the white hatch (I've seen a few photos, all late war, where the hatch looks very light in color).

All in all ... nice work.

Hello Neo

many thanks for your kind comment.

As all Panzer modellers I've asked told me that white was only on very, very early Pzkpf. visible from the outside I rather chose "dunkelgelb" which still is pretty bright.

I am a bit unhappy about the "dunkelgelb" on the righthand side as it is almost invisible after the wheathering .. but OTOH this is my 4th tank and I still have to learn a lot..

best wishes

Steffen

IMHO the interior of hatch covers look light because they tend to be less whethered than the exterior; and most hatch covers are on horizontal, or slightly angled surfaces, when opened reflect more light, also making them appear a lighter color when painted in the base dunkelgelb ( in B+W photos).
