Hi Everyone,
Please let me interrupt all of the current campaigns and builds to announce that the campaign Fighters Under the Midnight Sun starts in two weeks.
I am about to submit the campaign ribbon I've been working on, and have my Brewster Buffalo ready for building! I look forward to the campaign and everyone's choice of subjects for this fascinating (for me at least) little known WWII air war.
Please PM me with any questions. See you there and check six!

Hi Fred.
I saw the link of the campaigne around the time it is posted and jumped on it thinking it was a Night Fighter campaigne but suddenly realized that it was even a more intresting subject. I will be there with my 1/72 Fokker DXXI when the time has come to fly.

Geeeeez!
I've been waiting to open my Buffalo box since I bought it in January. When we get around to the paint stages Fred, I want to double check with you on your choice so we don't end up building identical twins for this campaign. I can't wait to get started on this one. Been looking forward to it for a long time.

Hi Fred!
I'm looking forward to this one! I know I said I'll build a Caudron C.714 but they never saw combat... doh! I'll do a Fiat G.50 instead. It's the Flying Machine 1/48 kit. I just have to wait for the new AML Finnish decal sheet to arrive. It comes with a nice resin conversion tail fin for the Finnish G.50 export version

Yalım Alatlı, Von Cuda, Jean-Luc,
Great, I am looking forward to it!
Hermon, it is OK with me if we build the same plane. I forget which one I'm planning, but will PM you in a day or so.
I am almost willing to do a captured lend-lease VVS P-40!
See you guys later,
Fred

Fred, I have the intencion to build a Fokker DVII in Finnish Air Force markings for a long time. Now I know it is pre-war and even trainer(I am not sure) in some occasions but would you accept such a dull idea to the campaigne or shall I stick with my D.XXI? PM(only standing Turkish company) has a 1/72 D.XXI (with Finnish markings and sledge landing gears) since my childhood and it will be a great fun to build it once again.

Hi there
I was tempted to do a Bleinheim or Gladiator - but I reckon I'll go with a Lysander. I nearly bought the Pacific Models Finnish G.50, but the standard version was next to it on the shelf and had even more goodies inside. :-) It makes an interesting comparison with the Flying Machines 1 serie I'm building for the Spanish Civil War campaign...
All the best

my CA Buffalo is ready to start ...
I really hope the buildability was improved since the Claude, Re2000 and F-5B .... horrible models from the "ease of construction" stand point
let's get it on
cheers
Steffen

Hi Fred,
I'm planning a diorama portraying a Gloster Gladiator from the Swedish volonteer wing (F 19).
Don't look so surprised, y'all!
I'll probably start pretty late, since I'm currently rather engaged in the Suez campaign! You might want to check it out, Fred! It's a whole lot warmer than northern Finland...
Cheers!

Hi everyone,
I am looking forward to this build. I have a P-36 with the Foreign Hawk by Aeromaster. I plan on doing CU-556 (the one with 10.5 victories).

Hey Brian,
The Hawk was my first choice but my LHS didn't have any in stock and I'm limited right now in how much I can spend. Did you buy yours online or did you actually find it locally?
That's going to be a great addition to the campaign and after seeing your P-40 entry for Show Your Teeth, I can't wait to see your Hawk.
I'd like to buy that kit in the future so if you can, try and take plenty of pictures during the build and point out any problem areas.

Hello Voncuda,
Thank you for the kind words on Col. Scotts P-40. About the Hobby Craft P-36 kit I won it on ebay. Even with the shipping I still paid $4.00 under what Hobby Town USA wanted for it.
I'll keep you posted on the progress/regress after I start the build.
Sincerely,
Brian

I have a Lagg3, and some decent reference material on it. I am tempted to give this a try. The only thing I would need is another set of Finnish crosses, as the ones with the Roden kit are way off in color. I'll see if I can hook up some replacements before joining in.
BTW, I was reading the Squadron book on the Finnish Air Force in WW II, and I noticed how chipped up the paint was on almost every plane pictured. I realize that these planes were in very heavy service duty, and had no time for maintaining things that didn't help them win battles. This would be a great chance for weathering fanatics to go nuts!

Hi Brian,
Wonderful! If I wasn't doing the Buffalo, I'd do the P-36
If I have time, I am planning to also do a Finnish Bristol Bulldog.
Everyone, I am really getting pumped for this campaign! It is my first, so I hope I don't stall-spin, let alone crash and burn
Looking forward to each of you models,
Fred

Hi All,
One other thing in case I confused issues--as is my gift.
"Fighters" = fighter aircraft AND bombers. If it carried and could put ordinance on a target either offensively or defensively, I consider it a valid subject. Hence, recon planes are welcome, too. Even a transport with a defensive gun.

When I first found out about this campaign, I knew I had to take part. Fortunately I got 6 months service time in army and I'm able to participate. When I get out on July the 7th, I'll have a real modeling spree. I've been also thinking about getting that compressor so I can put my new airbrush to real use. Here's what I've got stashed for the campaign. My only problem seems to be choosing what to build first!
If you're wondering about that CA Brewster, my LHS didn't have any FAF brewsters left so I got an InScale decal sheet for free with the U.S navy version. Only thing missing was the right instructions but a friendly fellow modeler sent me copies of his.
I'm looking forward for the campaign with you and getting home from the army.

Hi Eetu!
That's a nice collection of kits! Miam! Miam!
I received my AML decal sheet with replacement resin tail rudder for the Finnish G.50 version.
So this will be my paintscheme!

Hi all.
I was thinking of doing the Special Hobby or MPM Fokker D XXI,but there seems to be a few of these being considered. I would love to do the Revell Hurricane. Is the Finnish version only available "Under The Midnight Sun"?

Hi Nigel!
I'm not 100% sure, but I think that kit is meant for Finnish market, as the box and instructions have finnish text only.
If you're interested in building a finnish hurricane, you can order this particular kit from Martti Kuivalainen's online store here (you can pay with Mastercard or Visa): http://www.kolumbus.fi/martti.kuivalainen/engindex.html
('models and conversions'-->'revell' code: RV4183 Hurricane II B SUOMI 6€)
This kit has that one crucial error, it's not a mk.IIB, but a mk.I! The kit comes with decals for one russian plane, and the one and only mk.IIB used by FAF.
You can just ignore this issue and build the kit as it comes or get InScale's aftermarket decals for the kit (you can purchase these from Kuivalainen as well: INS018 Hawker Hurricane I, II)
OR
Purchase a 1:72 mk.II Hurricane kit and I'll send you the decals that came with my kit. (in fact, I have two of those sheets to spare, as I have two of those kits now and I don't need any of the kit decals.)
If you can't buy online, you could buy a mk.I kit and I can send you the decals as my InScale sheet has so many marking choices that I have a few to spare.
