Howdy,
A few weeks back I built a AH-1S which turned to a Sea Cobra:
I built this for an illustration. I took some digi pics and Photoshopped everything together. The picture doesnīt make much sense (AH-1 firing wrong kind of TOWs at SUBMARINES!) but hey! Itīs cover art for a simple action game... #:-) #:-) #:-) #:-)
I was very happy with the results. The feeling is not immaterial as in most 3-d models and this way I can have just the right angle shot without going through pictures taken by someone else and having to pay for that!
I would say this was a cheap approach to the subject.
Iīm glad to say I do things like this for a living!
Cheers,
Toni

Envar,
it's very very nice, and see it on the game cover is so satisfying! Good Job!

Thanks for the comments guys...
Itīs the first time I built something for other purpose than modelling itself.
The game is actually a Java game for mobile phones. This cover art pic is a bit overwhelming for a simple shooting game, but I think it wonīt do any harm either .
Thatīs pretty much like it was with Commodore 64 era games, the game itself had little to do with the posters and packages. But they are really important to get you in the right mood.
And to sell your game to the people who distribute it...

I would love to be able to do this with my models as well! What programme do you use?
I love what you done here. Its great to see that a hobby can actually become a little earner on the side. Well done!

Thanks for the compliments!
Slodder, itīs a 1:48 Revell-Monogram AH-1S. Quite nice build, I made that in three evenings. I have it on my desk at work now . More about the build here!
Plasticbattle, I used Photoshop 6. Thatīs my tool and the only one I use fluently when it comes to image manipulation.
I have blurred the rotor blades, added some light reflections and other effects. The background is a composition of eight photographs, the sea has three layers on top of each other. The most difficult thing is often to get the color balance right between different elements. The light source must be decided beforehand to have all highlights already there when shooting the object. I lighted this helo with two desk lamps from the right to get the general lighting. The explosion is made from one single image, multiplied and distorted...
The Canon Powershot S10 standard, slightly wide angle lens made the helo look aggressive and push forward with all its mass.
With a total of 50+ layers in the finished image, it sized 180 MB...

It seems I missed that previous topic on your helicopter, so now is the time to say.. Whhohoow!! #:-) #:-)
Great little thing.. I love the paint job; have you done it with a brush? Although I don't know much about helos, markings and stuff, this is a model I really like. Good job, you prooved to be more than a great dioramist. Well done.
