Hello folks,
As I can only work on my D-Day Diorama on the weekends, but my fingers itch to build all the time, I thought I'd grab a kit out of storage to have something to work on during the week. This is the 4th model I ever buildt, and my first airplane at the same time!
My choice was a Spitfire MK IXc. 43rd sqaudron (stationed in Klagenfurt, Austria in 1945) The kit is from Revell, sclae 1/48th. I can not recommend this kit to anyone, especially not to beginners ( I for myself pretty much am a beginner,...) you will see why not, when you look at the pictures! :-)
I didn't use any PE sets, I buildt it straight out of the box. This week I am going to mask off teh canopy and then the spit will be ready for paint! Everything else is completed so far.
Here are some pictures.
Here is a shot of where the fuselage meets the wings. This is how accurate the fit was,... as you can tell I had a little putty-fest in my place! Unfortunately I didn't have any plasticard to fill the gap at that time.
The fit on the underside wasn't really any better as you can see here.
This is the front view. Sorry about the bad quality,.. or wait is it because of the shadow from the huge gap between the wings and fuselage??
I hope ya'll like what I am showing here and am anxious about ya'lls opinions.
Cheers
Heli

Hey again,
I am not sure why but in my last post two pictures didn't show.
Here they are.
The only thing i added was a little copper wire for the break hose on the undercarriage.
And here after the paint
Cheers

before you go any further. Sand those wheel-well bulges (wide tear-drop shapes) off of the tops of the wings. They dont belong on an MK IX

Heli I'm surprised that you've found so many fit problems with that kit. If it's the Revell AG Spitfire Mk.IXc then it's actually a re-boxing of the Hasegawa Mk.IX Spit. I've build several of these (both Hase & Revell) and never found the sorts of problems you have
Very nice progress to date by the way.
Cheers

That cockpit interior looks very nice.
I too built that kit and had no serious problems with fit, just a little filler was required at the right wing root, left wing fit without gaps.
My biggest gripe with the kit are the instructions, which don't mention the different cannon arrangement between IX and XVI (cannons in the inner ports on IX, on the outer ones in XVI), it's only shown in the decal placement drawings. That's why I ended up with a mk.IX with markings for a mk.XVI... I messed up the yellow dotted lines that go on the canopy, so I decided to use the mk.XVI markings. Then I noticed the cannons being in different ports than the istructions show.

I actually had a lot of the same problem while building my hasegawa kit. The bottom wing just would not sit right

Hey everyone,
This weekend I got to finish the spit! I finally sprayed the last coat of clear flat on the model. After going thru all these fit problems I am quite pleased with the final results. Sure there are still some things that could have been done better, like the canopy,... after taking the mask off, the edges of the paint looked kinda rough. Anyway, I chose to not do any weathering because I want to put more effort into my current D-Day project and because I thought it would still make a nice display in the glass cabinet the way it is now.
Anyhow, here are some pictures.
There is barely any silvering on the Decals. Surprising, when you concidering the size of it.
The only thing I "weathered" was the exhaust
I hope you all like what I am showing! Critisism, tips, hints etc. are always welcome!
Cheers,
Heli
