Hi All
A few photos of my King Tiger, part way through painting the camo (3 colour soft edge). It's my first airbrushed camo model.
The guy being burnt by the exhausts is my first attempt at a 1:35 camo jacket - not very good, but better than i thought i could do.
Comments Please

I really like it. I just finished this one myself. Are you going to keep it two-tone or add the third color to the camo? I also like the figure, I have horrible luck with figure painting so I usually dont even try.

Is this the Dragon King Tiger? What Unit & time frame are you going for? The King Tiger is one of my all time favorites. This is looking like a really nice, clean build. Camo should work out fine with the additon of the 'red brown'. Don't forget the 'wire' to your Bosch headlight. Keep us posted.

Yes it is the Dargon King Tiger - the one with the 18 tooth sprocket and one peice track - comes with a bonus set of panzer grenadiers as well. As for unit and time frame i'm only just back into building models so it's oob - and i can't remember which decals are included. Can recommend the kit though.
What guage 'wire' should be used at 1:35. I'm sure i can 'borrow' some of SWMBO's jewellery making wire, but i'm not sure what guage.
Thanks for the comments!

Don't really have a 'gauge' for you to go by. I just kind of matched up a 'spare' piece of wire to the connector on the headlight as a best guess. Besides the wire at 1/35 I think it goes farther then necessary to worry about as far as precise accuracy. I think your jewelry wire would probably work fine. Take a look at some photos or models in Gallery to get an idea. As I said this is looking great and keep up the good work.

Hi
Nice looking KT - how did you apply your soft edge cammo? Was it by airbrushing freehand?

It sure was/is still being done by free hand airbrushing - very thin paint, low psi and lots of Pink Floyd!!

Hi,
For healight wires, I just use those for twist ties wires. They work just fine.
I like your camo job...very good.

It's the Army 506th, the "other" Tiger battalion in the Ardennes Offensive. The separated turret numbers are what distinguish it from the SS 501st, which is by far the better known unit, as it was more heavily photographed. The 506th commander decided to "speed number" the individual tanks within the companies rather than do conventional platoon numbers, which is why some of the number sequences are odd. This unit received a few of the tanks with the revised track, though the ones photographed had Zimmerit (apparently a small batch of tanks was tried with the new track in the late summer or 1944, but stocks of the old track had to be used up first, so the track doesn't reappear until March, 1945 on the last few tanks built).

just get a card of fuse wire, the three sizes always come in handy and it can be bent to the shape required.
Pink Floyd 'eh, now that's what i call modelling music, you wern't listening to the final cut by any chance, 'the day the tigers escaped'?
if there's a fishing tackle shop near you get some lead wire too, that's also good for little wiring conduits and what not

Your King Tiger is shaping up very nicely indeed, Andy.
I've just finished a Dragon Panther A (Normandy), and have an Ardennes King Tiger lined up as my own next AFV project.
Are you going to add the smaller dots for the 'ambush' camo scheme?
- Steve

No i'm not doing an 'ambush' scheme.
I've now completed this model, just haven't taken photos as yet. Watch this space.

Very nice Tiger! Just a couple of small points in an otherwise great model.
There is a gap where the front upper plate meets the hull. The second area is along the rear plates where you can see a gap. Just friendly constructive help.

Great looking King Tiger. Im planning on doing one once I get my Easy Eight finished.
Im hoping to depict a King Tiger at Sennelager 1945 just about to pounce on 3rd US Armd. 507 battalion I thing. Not sure of the numbers or markings though. Anybody any ideas?

Great work Andy.
I really like the way you've done the camo.
My only suggestion would be that you could weather the tracks a little more.
But all in all, great build.
Might have to move mine up the pecking order.
cheers,
Jurgen
