Well, with that big blade in front the "Ronson" at last had decent frontal armouring :-)

As it was armed with a 105mm one of the functions of the 'dozer blade was to dig itself in during direct/indirect fire missions...

Just joking Jim. I sure the 105 was a useful Sherman variation. Just that to me the Sherman is an ugly looking unit.

Good thing I haven't spent for an AM Dozer blade :-) :-) Would love to have this kit. Too bad it has the HVSS suspension, but that's another story.

Its a Korean war USMC Sherman. I believe they would be attached to the HQ platoon and used for minor engineering tasks. The 105s in HQ were used for fire support, I guess you kill 2 birds with one tank. It is definitely Korea though. I'm going to have to get one.

I had a whole collection of basic Tamiya and Italiari Shermans and after market kits to build Sherman variants and now they are all being overshadowed by the model companies.

This is great, T-80 tracks and all. I have wanted that blade for a long time and now, it is attached to a Sherman already. I can think of several uses for it , Regimental Tank companies from the Pusan Defense until the the Armistace.

Did Academy give a hint at the release date?

In its Korean site, it is to be released in the winter of 2006- which means sometime early next year for us in the North America. The price is to be the same as their M3 Lee tank.
In addition, they announced a M3 Half-track in 1/72 braille scale for the coming winter. Once again, the English description of the new Sherman is terrible. Can Academy hire someone better in English? Anyways, another great news for the Allied kit fans!

That blade looks nice. Am I seeing the turret correctly? It looks like a bulge running down the right side of the turret underneath the cupola.

You are not wrong. Those are T80 tracks and are typical of a Korean War vehicle as this is. The marines used these in Korea. WW2 M4A3 and M4 105 were also photographed with T80 track. The DML track on the new Thunderbolt is the earlier T66 track.
This should prove popular amongst the Shermaholics.
Come Academy and do the M4A2 dv you were talking about. It would make a great stablemate to DML's Sherman III.
A great time to be a shermaholic.

Dragon has announced an M4A3 HVSS with 105mm as well, see PMMS about it.

Well, no they haven't actually. From an inside source, I can more or less say 100% that this WON'T be announced in Tokyo. DML has made no announcement of this sort whatsoever, the story actually came from HLJ - not DML....

That's a wise marketing move by DML. Given the niceties of their M4A3 HVSS "Thunderbolt" it is very easy to add the 105 turret and the M1A1 dozer blade Their hull and HVSS are nicer than what I imagine Academy will be able to produce.

There has been some discussion about the strange bulge on the right turret wall too -- maybe the same kit designer as the M3 Lee turret? LOL

The Academy turret does not appear to have the thickened cheek either. This along with that strange vertical bulge may doom this kit given DML's efforts at accuracy (we know they already have a correctly bulged 105 turret from their M4A3 HVSS POA)

I think I'll wait to see DML's (list price about USD32 as well!)

Sherman modellers should note that the M1A1 Dozer equipment was specificaly designed for 23-inch HVSS Shermans. The M1 Dozer (released by Trakz, Resicast and Verlinden) fits the earlier standard VVS Shermans.

Roy, it isn't a nice marketing move by anyone. The M4a3 (HVSS) has NOT been officially announced by DML at all. You are absolutely correct saying that it's a logical release though, with the quality of the hull/suspension components they have from 'Thunderbolt' it won't take them a lot of investment to do the full 105mm kit.

Regarding the Academy 105, I am (sadly) still getting a certain nervous feeling about that turret - hopefully what the reviews will counter that...Jim

Yeah, well, I only saw it at PMMS, so that's all.

Hey, maybe your inside source can tell what's up with the late Tiger-E #6253, I can't find that one anywhere!
