Hi chaps.
Here are some photos of the 'Tarawa' Sherman converted to a British Sherman 111.
I wanted to build the tank from the cover of 'By Tank Into Normandy' by Stuart Hills. The turret box is from Historex, I beam and applique armour scratch.
It is accurate as far as I can tell from the rather poor photo, which I cannot scan unfortunately, but I would like criticism and advice. Should there be anything else added/changed?
Thanks
Tony

Looking VERY good although the applique armor still has to 'blended' into the hull and softened at the edges. Some welding beads will have to be added around it as well. Apart from that - I don't see much missing...

Thank you Jim
I will check my photos and rectify those.

Lewis,
I will be painting whatever Green I can find appropriate for NWE. I haven't really got that far yet.

Thanks both,

Tony

Looking good. The curse of the stiff brass fenders is upon you. Could these be heated up to remove the stiffness?

Randall,
I see what you mean. Could you explain how I can heat them up (without causing any damage) and what effect I can expect?
I haven't tried that before.

Alan,
Thanks. This is been a lot of fun. Next up is a Sherwood Rangers Firefly from the Tasca kit which is on it's way

Tony,
Sorry, but my IPO went dead again, just got back online. I have used thin brass sheet for T-34 fenders and heated the brass over a candle flame to remove the stiffness, or temper. I have not tried this on the Sherman fenders. I'll try it as soon as I have a chance.

Looking good mate!
One thing that bothered me was the size of the rearmost applique on the right side... It seemed a little large, but is (as it should be) flush with the top edge of the hull side...
Then it dawned on me that it is a little far forward... The gap should be bigger. If possible, I'd move the rear one back, thus reducing its size in height as the hullside narrows... The forward edge should be in line with the front edge of the middle return roller

Thanks Bradley
I missed that one. On checking some photos I have you are absolutely right. Although I have seen some a little different nearly all are where you say they should be.
Adjustment has been made!! Sprue purchased for weld seams. Post pic later.
Cheers

Thanks very much Jim.
Nice to see they did not weld along the bottom. I didn't realise that.

Tony,
Jim put up a couple very good pictures. The welds could also go all the way around. It depends on the skill of the welder, and/or if the work was done in a factory. Notice how the wleds across the top are flat and ribbon like, while down the sides they are side to side (weaved in). I make the side to side welds by filling in the angle between hull and armor and then texturing with a fine saw blade while the filler is still soft. Good luck.

hehe
I have just viewed my post Tony, and can see that the silly little diagram I knocked up for you did not line up right compared to when I was typing the darn thing!!.
Regardless, Jims second photo shows exactly what I meant
