Gday there
First project attempted since recovering from gastro...
Using an old M4 hull, I have made some sandbag soft armour protection for a future tank project... I used the white fine milliput, and because it was quite a hot day it was a little sticky to work with... For texture I decided to leave my big oaf finger prints on the bags sporadically, as my opinion in the argument as to whether you would see any texture at this scale (1/35) is that you would, albeit fine
I don't think they are too bad scale wise, and some are randomly sized for that bit of individualism...
Let me know what you think!
Cheers
Brad

Looks good. One of the original burlap bags I saw had a very thick weave so there would be detail even in 35th scale.

Brad-- they look great. You may consider using a gauze bandaid for the texture in the future. How did you determine what size to make them?
thanks

Awesome work, Brad! I think they need a little texturin', but they do look really good, the proportions are excellent!
Can you give me some tips on on how you scratched 'em, and the tools you used?! Proportion is half the battle!

Looks nice and random. The only one I think might be an issue is the one over the MG. I'm thinking the way it's set in there it might slide down

Thanks for the feedback lads
Gary~ Give them a try!
DJ~ I like the gauze bandaid idea... Always room for a future project...
I determined their size from using a 1/35 figure the first time, and where a bag would measure against his leg... I figured them to be approx. knee high...
Paul~ I used a method that has been highlighted here before, with the milliput rolled into long snakes and then marked in equal segments before slicing through with an #11 blade or similar... The putty squashes down with the cut, giving a pillowed appearance at each end, which gives you a rough shape already. The other end is dutifully hidden where possible when laid on the glacis, but for the odd exposed one, I made a few simple creases and pinched that end together, and later cut a small blob which was fashioned into the open end above the tie-off point...
Alan~ I agree about the bag over the .30cal, but I kind of painted myself into a corner ands didn't want to obstruct the .30s traverse.. I may fix it later though...

Brad,
When you go to use the bags just notch out the bags a bit and fit a wood or plastic board under the bag over the bow mg.

They look great.. Send in a picture after you paint them. The creases are very convincing as well as the stitching..

Yes I meant to add that I'm really interested in seeing the texture after it's been painted to see how well it shows through.
As for the .30, maybe you can jam a piece of wood to simulate a plank to supprt that one bag rather than redoing the whole side??? I too have an M4 with Eduard PE and Formations upgrades to build. I was planing on sandbagging my glacis too!!!

Randall Mike Tony ALan and India11A thanks for the replies...
I will probably go with the idea of using a support over the bow mg, supporting that bag...Should be easy enough to do!
