I tried posting this last week but couldn't figure out how to post pictures. With the help of several gentlemen on the board I'll try again.

This is my first model in about 25 years.

I painted it overall with Testor’s Olive Drab, then went back over it again with Olive Drab mixed with White to give it a faded look. Next I applied two oil paint washes, one with W/N Burnt Umber and one with Black. I painted the pads on the tracks with Testor’s Rubber then dry brushed them with Rust. Finally I dry brushed the dirt areas with Floquil Red Earth.

For a first effort I’m reasonably proud of it although I can see every blemish, and believe there are plenty.

I'm going to try to recreate the tank from the Bogart movie Sahara.

I am going to try a little more dry brushing on the turret and then try some pastels after I mount it to the diorama base. My plan is have the tank covered with a good deal of sand like the Lulubell was after a dust storm in the movie. I also am going to try to have a couple of graves next to her. This isn’t exactly a scene from the movie but it does capture the spirit of the film.

BTW, does anybody know how to capture DVD images? I have the DVD Sahara but I don’t know who to capture a still from it.

Not only am I a beginner in modeling but also in digital photography. I’m used to using a SLR where what you see in the viewfinder is what you see on film. I’m having trouble getting used to the viewfinder on my digital camera being about an inch above the lens so I’m either cutting off the top or bottom of my pictures.

A very good start. The only thing that suonds strange to me is the rust over the tracks rubber.

Rodger, that looks really good.

To capture DVD stills you will need to a) run your DVD player through a video card that can accept video input and capture with video capture software b) play the DVD on your PC DVD player and use the DVD software to capture the stills.

Very nice work on the tank.
My understanding is that the DVD software takes over the vidio card, making it very hard to capture an image. I have been trying for a while. I'm sure someone will write a program to do this, and maybe already has. If I can find something I let you know.

I don't have DVD in the computer, however, what you might try to do is pause at the image you want, then hit the "Print Screen" button up next to your Function keyes. Then import the image to an image program like paint and save it. You can then reopen it in a photo program and edit the image.

Good to be back in the saddle again isn't it Rodger. Nice work! Only 2 little criticisms (both involving the tracks) as already mentioned rust on rubber and the second would be to consider replacing the tracks with a set that are more accurate. This kit comes with the end connectors in the wrong location. Keep up the good work.

For future reference, you might want to apply a gloss coat where your stencil decals are going to be. The ones on the starboard side show a little bit of the carrier film (silvering). Your weathering may hide this, but better to prevent than to have to hide. Otherwise, looking pretty good.

To all of you who reviewed my effort, thanks. This is the kind of review that I need. I'd like to reply to a couple of points.

To those who mentioned me putting rust on rubber tread pads the idea I was trying to get across, probably in error, was how rust might have rubbed off the metal parts and onto the rubber ones.

To Shermanfreak, I'm on a budget. So far I'm doing strictly OOB. I'm just not ready to pop for AM tracks, although someday I hope to.

To AjLaFleche, one step I forgot to mention is I did coat the tank with future. I thought that was supposed to avoid what you call "silvering." Maybe I should put a heavier coat next time?

To those who gave suggestions on the DVD, thanks. I'm going to try the print screen tonight. Other than that I'm going to try it on my daughters computer. She has a desktop with a much more powerful graphics card than my notebook so maybe hers will do it.

Thanks again for all your feedback.
