Greetings Everyone,
My contribution to the geese hunting campaign, Tamiya's Flak 38. I will not build the trailer that comes with the kit as I want a solo flak gun. First, I checked the kit, then prepared a review for a local modelling site and then got to work.
First inspection showed a lot of sinkmarks all over the place. I wondered whether they would slow me down. The date on the sprue said "1978", which means the kit is 5 years older than I am. Which also meant evident molding lines...
Getting up to here cost me a day. The molding lines on the gun was especially time consuming to clean up.
This is where I spent the rest of the day. First, cleaning the pieces from molding lines and then filling sink marks with putty. I hate sinkmarks!!!
After a whole day of puttying, cleaning and sanding, I was able to get only this far... Main gun assembly. With a newer kit, say a Dragon tank, I might have completed hull and turret assembly in this time.
After two days of work, the main construction is completed. Still, filling all the sinkmarks drove me crazy after a point. Why they were in visible places 90% of the time, I wonder...
Now, I will allow the glue to cure for a day. Then I will have to apply some base coat on it to see if my sinkmark covering frenzy had worked out. I am still thinking on a paint scheme, I might go panzer grey with winterwash on.
Cheers everyone,
