From Russia with love,
comes this vehicle based on the BTR-70 from Zvezda and an ambulance conversion from SP-Design.
The BTR-70 is more like a toy, than a scale replica and I am lucky that the wheels are hiding the lower regions, so that I can just concentrate on the visible areas.
The hatches are moveable, but the hinges are so crude that I had to replace them. Now they are in fixed position. Next to each hatch I had to add an eaves gutter. It is still missing next to the front hatches as it did not work with styrene profiles. So I had to remove the whole mess including the hatches and built new ones. I will now use lead foil.
The vision ports are the next disappointment!
Crude resembly, wrong positioning, no vision blocks.
Is anybody aware of an update set for this? I still have some other BTR-70, BTR-80 projects and this is cumbersome to scratch! I used vision blocks from Panther and Kingtiger. Is there anything available for modern AFV?? I face the same problems with M113 kits...
Certain gaps were filled with modelling wax from Rai-Ro. To neutralize the wax surface you have to moisten it with silicon remover. There are different brands, oily and fluent ones. The fluxional one attacks the plastic, thus the strange foggy areas on the surface. On the other hand, it provides a nice and subtle surface effect, just right for softskins!
The conversion consists of 2-3 other parts.
To continue the story, I need to be pushed ..
Regards, Werner

Hi Jurjen!
Thanks for the nice words.
The problem is, that Dragon and Italeri issues of these kits are identical.
So there is not much choice around. I wonder who was the first who released this kit. I've been around for a while, but they were released at a time when I was devoted to WWII only.

Very nice start Werner. This is a damned kit like the BTR-80 of the same company.
But in the end, you'll get some original model. Keep posting your work.
