Hi all
Anybody know when this little panzer was put into action?
Dragons instructions give two colour schemes for 1942 - yet the colour schemes are dark yellow and dark yellow with green and brown. Not really the schemes I would expect to see in 1942? The box shows the some colour scheme. So are the Dragon instructions wrong about the year? Should it have said 1944? It looks more like a late war vehicle to me.
review with pictures of the instructions
I have the same tank in kit form from Maquette. It seems to be the same tank, except Maquette calls it SdKfz 140/1 in stead of Aufklarungspanzer 38(t). However, I believe it is the same tank, as one is just the name and the other the SdKfz number specification. Here the instructions say it was produced in 1944 which would be more logical for the colour schemes.
Anybody know who is right? Dragon or Maquette?

Must be a misprint on the Dragon instructions, 1942 is impossible.
The indefatigable researchers on ML indicate that the 140/1 was issued to the Grossdeutschland division in May 1944 and 3rd Panzer Division in September the same year. Neither of which was serving in the west.

Thanks for your reply
That was what I were thinking. Also I have a mistrust of these "unknown unit" profiles. Are they based on a real picture or are they just drawn up as "this is how it could have looked".
Where they only issued to these two divisions?
There are markings for some SS divisions in the Maquette kit and I was planning on placing my model in a diorama around Operation Market Garden. But if it was only used in the East I will use another kit from my stash.
What is ML?

'Unknown unit' usually means they were taken from a photo which lacked any other info, like time, place and unit.

Of course, I know Missing Links. Should have thought about that one myself.

Thanks a lot for the information, guys. It is most appreciated.
Now I will find another model for my "special forces campaign" diorama. My British paras will have to hunt something else in Operation Market Garden.
