Hi everybody,
after a lot of research and patience (waited over a month for the models to come), I started my Sd.Kfz.222. Itīs the old Tamiya kit with all the three detail sets from Royal Models plus resin roadwheels from Sovereign 2000 from my spare box. Itīs just the interior yet, lot of work to do, plenty of details to add. Two of my pics are kind of dark but the third is just fine I think. Let me know what you think about it, like to hear your comments. Thanks for looking,

Anastasios

I like it - it looks very exiting...a huge project - looking forward to see the end-result.

best wishes

I wish all those nice detail sets were around 10 years ago. Good luck, it's looking good so far.

Nice job so far. The rear air intake screen and other details look good. I'm just curious about the placement of the radio and extra battery. From the 222 pics I've seen and the one I crawled all over while photographing it, the radio was mounted in a rack attached to the turret between the commander and loader. In it's current position, it would interfere with the traverse of the turret by fouling the commander/gunner's foot pedals. The second battery would normally be seen on SdKfz 223's in order to support the additional radio equipment that it carried. Maybe the detail set designers made a mistake?

In any case, nice start. I look forward to seeing your continued progress on this kit.

Thanks everybody for your comments. Iīll try to post some new posts the sooner I can. I work on the model every single minute of my free time. The detail set are really beautiful but the instructions arenīt that clear and having actually to "coordinate" three interlocking sheets is kinda difficult but a lot of fun!!!
"Toadman" you seem to have absolutely right on your comments. I too got some fotos of the 222 you fotographed plus some fotos of the Littlefield 222. It seems the second battery was used only on 223s. Also the radio seems to be in that place also only on 221s and 223s. But I canīt find in the fotos the position for the radio on a 222, could you maybe help me on that?? Thanks in advance...

I've built the 222 3 times already. I've contemplated making interiors once.

The one question I want to ask you is, how do you expect to show the interiors? Because to complete the kit you must mate the upper and lower hulls so that you can assemble parts A13, A14, B17 & B18.

Makes me envious looking at your interiors.

Thanks once more for your comments, more fotos to come soon. I donīt think that an engine block can be found for this vehicle, I would like to see one. Itīs actually the only part missing.
This is my second detailed armoured car, my love for them came with my first one, a 221 with the panzerbuechse from Sovereign2000, a superb little resin kit with tons of details. This model will be part of a small vignette along with two figures from Alpine miniatures, so doors will be open let some of the detail show. But to be honest, I add all the detail because I like to know that the model is "complete" even if no one else will notice. After all itīs a lot more fun this way!!

Here is some progress with my 222. Not too much done really since I was a little bit busy this weekend taking place to "Herzog of Bayern" figure competition at Ingolstadt, Germany, but from now on Iīm fully concetrated on this project. Iīve done the corrections suggested by Chris (battery and radio removed), some more details added on the inside of the upper hull and some parts of the turret are assembled. Work has became lot more difficult and complicated at this stage since the instructions of Royal Models are little bit vague and I try to all the time to figure out the correct placement of the pieces. Thanks for looking,

Anastasios.

Hi all,
just posted some more pics of my progress, which at the point is very complicated and difficult, since the lower hull-gun-turret system has to be build aligned. I did some steps though, the better I could. At the pics you can see the almost finished vision ports, every single one of them counting some 20 parts!! If the original Tamiya plastic wasnīt so thick, they could be glued in the open position too. Also some work on the turret is done, as well on the exterior. The too figures that will eventually "support" the small vignette are also present. More to come soon......

Anastasios, nice progress. Got a question for you. Does this kit come with the template to make air identification flags? Thanks in advance.

Hi hardright, well if you mean the Tamiya kit then no, templates not included. Not even in the aftermarket kits is such a template to be found.

The visors/view ports look real nice. Great job on assembling them! Keep up the good work.
