I'm looking for a first kit, and would really love to build a CF Coyote.

I'm having trouble finding a kit for it, are there any available?

Try Italeri Coyote. They make several LAV-25 models that are not so accurate themselves but are the only base for making a Coyote. No one unfortunatly produces a model of one so you have to make a conversion. There was a article in recent issue of Fine Scale Modeler of a guy who made a coyote out of the Italeri 1/35 LAV-25.Good Luck

There is a conversion kit out there to make a LAV 25 into a Coyote, as well as a conversion kit to make the LAV into a Grizzly as well, also a Bison if I am not mistaken.....for the life of me I can't remember where I saw them....there is a Canadian site that has some resin conversion kits for Canadian Armor....its called Maple Leaf Models I think here is the link....but for some reason its not up....but all I could find in google.

The CF Coyote is a electronic warfare vehicle. It has the most powerful sensor suite around. Bush has requested that we supply them in Iraq.

There's also a fire support varient with a 25mm chaingun.

It's been a while since I built mine, and my skills/techniques have come a long way, but the Italeri LAV-25 is a real dog that is going to require a lot of attention in order to make it a real show stopper. I'd suggest picking up some aftermarket tires at the least, the ones in the kit are horrible, IMHO.

Actually the Coyote is an armoured reconnaissance vehicle, not an EW vehicle. There are EW Bisons in the inventory, but these do not have a turret.. There are two versions of the Coyote, one with the extendable mast and one without. Your bes strting point is the Italeri LAV 25. However, you will have to replace the wheels, MLMs wheels are recommended, the gun barrel, although no one yet makes fluted barrel, and scratch build the rst of it. I think JP is working on a conversion, but one is not out yet. I have some 5 view drawings if you are interested.
By the way the new Maple Leaf website address is

Paal, you mention the fluted barrel. The Eduard PE set (which for this kit i found to be only so-so) includes the flute. Just cut the stock flute off, bend this and glue it on. It will ad a bit of realiesm to the model.

Also, someone was supposed to be coming out with an ASLAV that was going to have a separate barrel (I think). Who it was escapes me though. I remember seeing the post a few months back.

Jeff
There was an example of the ASLAV floating about, although i don't recall who prduced it. It apparently was quite pricey.

Jeff,
There is an article on converting an Italeri Lav 25 to a Coyote in the Feb 2003 Fine Scale Modeler.

True, but this was someone who was actually producing a resin kit, I think I saw it over on Missing-Lynx, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm thinking of building a leopard C2 now, to keep the conversion work down.
However, I noticed that Revell of German makes a standard LAV 25 chassis. Maybe it's better then the Italeri version, for those that are interested.

Making a Coyote from a LAV-25 kit (Revell-Germany's IS the Italeri kit) is not that straight forward. Need new engine deck, external fuel tanks, new exhaust, tons of little details like rear view mirrors, armour attachment points, tool stowage, turret stowage bins, sensors etc, etc! Also fluted barrel (refers to the 'ridges' running the length of the barrel, not the flash suppressor).
MLM does not make a Coyote/Grizzly/Bison/LAV-III/Cougar or conversions (yet?!) If you can afford it, HobbyFan makes a Cougar, and now a Husky 6x6 recovery variant.
I'm currently working on a Leopard C2 conversion for MLM, a C1 conversion should hopefully be out pretty soon.
The Coyote article in FSM doesn't help much. A couple of photos of the finished model, and a short description of how Frank built it.

Cheers,
Jim
