Hey guys
recently i decided to work on two OOB builds and decided on the Tamiya 222 and 223 kits. No aftermarket parts were used, and the only PE used was that in the kit. This amounted to grenade screens for the 223, and grenade screens and barrel for the 222.
Paints are Tamiya Desert Yellow on top of Xtracrylics Panzer Grey. Weathering consists of several washes of Burnt Sienna and Migments. These were built purely for fun and no real attempt was made to ensure uber accuracy...purely for fun

They are a great pair of kits, certainly able to stand proud next to the newest releases, just one thing, the 20mm barrel is painted, shouldnt it be in natural metal? apart from that a very nice couple of builds.

For fun builds they look just great!
Only thing I can point out is the extra equipment not tied to the vehicle (the jerry can in the last pic of the 223 seems the most obvious.
Happy Modelling

Hey guys,
thanks for your comments and to answer the two points raised.
Mark i have seen painted and unpainted barrels. I decided to go for the finish i have based on the thinking that they would want to try and protect the metal and blend in more*shrugs* Just artistic licence if you like.
Tom, the jerry can you are refering to i assume if the grey water one? That is tied to the upright by some very fine wire, the same goes for the water bottles, guess it is just invisable in the photos.

Thanks for the reply Eth, my refs on the 222 are pretty slim, I based my comment on the built models I'd seen, but your reason is perfectly reasonable!

Very cool builds Eth i did the same thing with the old release 222 which came without the pe screens and barrel a couple of months backs i scratched a few things, one of the items was the front jerry can rack instead of using the smoke cannisters i noticed you did the same, my question is did this come in the later release or was it just something you added. Great looking builds both and indeed they are fun.

Hi Eth, have just had another look at the pics of the two cars andit seems that the screens on top of the 222 have come apart at the front, there is a noticable gap visible in the first pic on the left side.

Hey Ron,
the rack is scratchbuilt, jsut some spare bits of Evergreen done to the same dimensions as the kit supplied one in the 223. It is good to just go back to the basics and see what can be made of old kits like this. Although a newer kit would be more refined, there really is very little wrong with these old kits that a PE set cannot put right. If i was going to build either of these again i would replace the wheels. Although they are ok there is something about them that niggles at me.
Mark, you are right, as i was moving the 222 to take some photos it came away due to heavy handedness on my part......don't you just hate it when that happens. Thank you both for your comments, appreciate them
