This Tiger is "mostly" OOB. I used Atak zim, Friul tracks. The base color is MM RAF Middlestone, the red is a mix(MM Burnt Sienna, I forget the other color). It was my first go around with zim. It was my first attempt at a base, since the beast looked out of place in the display case sitting on a glass shelf. The pic showed me that the base needs some work in the vegetation department. I'm still getting a handle on the digi camera, and lighting.

Cheers

Hey Dave

Your KT looks nice so far. Do you have anymore pics to show us so we can see better how you painted your model. As far as I can see it looks nice.
The diorama base looks a little less. I would cut the grass to half lenght or max 3/4 of the lenght now. And I think it looks better when you cover the entire ground work with grass. Now it looks to structural if you know what I mean.

Hello Grtz,
Thank you for the advice. I had been mulling around cutting the grass. I didn't look so structural before I took the pic. I'll get some more pics of the KT off the base tomorrow. Better able to see the shell strikes (i.e. ricochets) It is late here, my day is done.

Sincerely
Dave

The Tiger looks great in your pic, and the zim looks excellent, especially for a first go. I'd agree the grass looksa little unatural, it needs more 'clumps' adding and trimming as mentioned.
As I said though the Tiger looks great, a few more pics would really do it justice, cheers,

James

From what I can see, the Tiger looks great. Would like to see a few other angles of it. As stated by the others, the base does need some work.

Here are the pics without the base (that is in MUCH need of improvement). I realized during the pics that the extiguisher is red. Yes, you may start the flogging! My defense is that it was my third tank, no internet for immediate reference check, no call out for color. Sorry it's the best I got. All in all it was an enjoyable build.

Thats the beaurty with using cavalier or attak zimmerit ... even with beginner level skills, a near-perfect result can be achieved. I know it costs, but when buying a quality kit, why not fork out the extra and remove the stress!
The Tiger looks great Dave. Strong build and paint job.
Maybe by adding some more random clumps of long grass, varying the height a little, and bring some of the weathering apparant on the tank to the groundwork, the base would look more natural.

Frank,
Thank you for the advice. I've been contemplating how best to do surgery on the base. There some ideas rolling around. My third base with a Marder III M was a much better execution of ideas.

Euhm Dave

If this is your third tank then I must say great job. I love your KT looks really nice. The mud is not overdone nice colours. My builds are not as great as yours as far as I can tell from your pics. And I build more then 3 tanks now
Your tank looks much better without the base that did not do justice to your KT.
Just 1 thing I can't really tell if you gave the periscopes a colour?

Dave,

Don't be so apologetic. Your work is fantastic. You have achieved a great affect on the drive wheels, the mud on the skirts is aaalllmost there. You can just see the stipple marks where you applied it. Great texture though, are they Mig pigments you have used?

You have exactly the same photo set up that I do. The old card background.

Keep up the good work.

Grtz,
The periscopes have a green tint. Someone told me long ago that german perscopes had a green tint to them. I could not comfirm or deny this, so I tried it out. I used thinned Tamiya Clear Green.

Stuart,

Thank you for the kind words. This KT was also my first go around with MIG pigments. I did notice the stippple marks after you had mentioned it. Yup! They are there. As I recall the mud mixture was starting to set up and I rushed through it worrying that if I mixed another batch I may not get the color right. Now I write down any special mixture, so I need to reproduce it, I have the recipe.

The card background was very cheap, and very functional. I need to add another fill light to the right. I' starting the photography and diorama bases in the same year.

Cheers
Dave
