Right now, the dirt is totally concentrated around raised details, as if someone had halfheartedly wiped the vehicle clean. A light overspray of your dust color mixed with clear flat will unify it a bit. I do like the concentration of light dust in nooks and crannies on a dark paint finish. It's something widely seen in real life, but most modelers usually use dark washes to depict dirt.
Also, the outer face of the track will probably have more bright metal from being scoured by ground contact, unless the tank has been sitting for a while, in which case the inner face should be rusted as well. The rust itself needs a clear flat coat.

It looks like you're in progress at this point.
The decals look great, no film or wrinkles at all.
They'll need wheathering / wear / fade to them.
Details look clean, scratched?
Historical accurracy, I wouldn't know anyway, my current T34/85 project has got two search lights in place of main gun!?!

looks good. i have to agree with Gerald though. i'ld like to add that it looks like you have applied pigments, which is good, but you overdid it a bit on the flat parts here and there. dirt will wash off in reality and heap up at the bottom or around details. this you have depicted very well with your tank.
I agree with gerald that it needs a flat coat on there, the tank looks rather shiny compared to the dust it has gathered.

Okay see what you are saying still not done and yes am using a silver Dry brush on the tracks.
These are pastel pigments hard to get them to lay just right.
A coat of either Dull coat or another flat is in the future.
Thanks for all comments

Hi Jeff.
Be careful about using too much bright silver and too much rust on the tracks; the manganese steel the tracks were made of was generally a dull steel grey and rust resistant; rust which did appear was a dull dark brown rather than red brown. In addition the Soviet tank tracks had a coating of bitumous protective material which took a long time to wear out
Dragged out of a swamp; well preserved tracks and note how clean the paint looks...
Preserved KV 1, Parola, Finland. Tracks are 60 years old and, apart from the weathering, are probably almost as good as the day this tank rolled off the line.

Thanks on the Heads up on the Tracks.
Was just following the norm I will oops already applied a flat coat.
I guess a little pastels and another flat coat is in order.
I heard that they were a shiney black from the factory.
For the silver using Aluminum paint and not silver.
I thought Silver was to bright.
Well good to go again.
Learned something new today

Glad to be of some help. I learned about the bituman treatment in a series of articles, by Cookie Sewell, on the KV1. These were in 2004 editions of Military Modelling.

Jeff,
Greetings from south of you! . The turret is improved. I like how the decal no longer look "factory fresh". The hull appears a bit more sun beaten with the turret matching it. I am curious about the yellow on the tracks and road wheels. Is it my monitor? Your lighting with photography? I like what you done with the inner portion of the tracks.
I too have had those moments of "better apply another flat coat". Fortunately, nothing beyond repair.
Keep up the good work!
Cheers
Dave

Hey, Jeff... nicely done! It's great to see the progress of a model I'm planning to do. (Got Italeri's T-34/85 in my stash drawer.) I'm going to remember this thread and look back at it when the time comes.

Jeff, nice work. I like the transformation...looks like you've got it down now.
Next time maybe use a burnt umber wash on the tracks, or actually burnt sienna would be better because it's a red brown color good for a dirt/rust mixture. Actually, burnt sienna with some burnt umber mixed in would be best. Yeah that's the ticket.
Anyway nice work.

Great weathering. What kind of pigments did you use?
How many builds you got going at the same time?

Thanks Ronnie well made my own of a set I bought at Hobby Lobby.
Great deals if you use their 40% off coupon can get a large set for like $14.00 that cost like almost $30.00.
Do have some of MIGs and Bragdon Enterprises.
This build is done except for one more tow cable.
Which it won't get now.
Well right now the M1 and starting the Humvee 1046.

good job bringing that one up to snuff. As for the yellow ochre...yellow clayee soils do appear in wetland deposits, so its very possible to have it clinging to tracks.
By the way, is that the 1/48 hobby boss kit?
