Hi all
I have started my Daimler Dingo which I would like to incorporate into a diorama. I have three sets of figures I want to use but am unsure as to there compatability.
For instance I though of using the commander and soldier from the Dragon set. The commander will be prone, taking cover behind a burnt out Jeep and the soldier will be handing him a motor.
I am doing a full interior in the Dingo aided by the Eduard PE set and some scratch built parts such as the seat.
Your advice is, as alway appreciated.
Stuart

The British Stretcher Party is modern...1960s/1970s...so likely not good for a WWII Dingo.
I don't think the British Red Devils are a good pick either for the Dingo...they never used them.

Nor should you use the Airfix multipose- they are 1/32 and will look way out of scale. In plastic try and get a set of Tamiya British Infantry on Patrol or the Masterbox British Troops, Caen.

Or look around for some resin figures.

Thanks for the heads up. Feel a bit stupid now. I realised the Airfix figures are in 1/32, but there is hardly any difference between them and the Dragon ones.
I found these, any good?
Thanks

Hey Stuart,
That set is good but Dragon's figure set, #6212 British Infantry (Normandy 1944), is newer and better detailed.
It has 6 figures consisting of a 2 man Bren Gun team, 3 squadies with Lee Enfield rifles and a squad leader armed with a Sten gun.
A bit more expensive (not nearly as much as the Tamiya set) but worth it.
Looking forward to seeing a Dingo diorama.
Cheers

Stuart,
I would have to concur with jjumbo. I built 3 of the 4 figs from the British Common Wealth set. I found the detail on them to be very soft and encountered some fit problems wich required some fixin with a little Miliput. I Would also agree that the Airfix figs are alittle big but if you are going to use figures from both sets just be sure to use weapons and equipment that are the same scale.

Hi there
I have gotten a fair amount of the interior completed. I was impressed with the Eduard PE set, very comprehensive and not too fiddly.
I have painted the cabin Tamiya white, which took around four coats, sponged on a little grey and gun metal to suggests areas of heavy wear and dirtied the whole thing up with a wash of lamp black oils.
The drivers seat has recieved a covering of tissue and PVA glue to bring out the texture.
Starting the exterior soon, keep you posted
Thanks

Interior is finished, I can now move onto the exterior.
I really enjoyed working on the cabin. Because it's such a small area, I was able to dedicate a lot of time to detailing it.
The radio was from a Tamiya Universal Carrier.
I will be painting the outside in a European colour as many of these Dingos are painted to sit in the african campaigne.
Thanks
Stuart

Got some painting done. Have applied a base coat of Tamiya olive drab, onto that a pin wash of black arcrylic and an overall was of lamp black oils.
Chips were applied with with a 5/0 brush using Tamiya gun metal.
The decals have silvered a little. Any ideas how to rectify this? I will try a coat of clear to anchor them a bit.
I did a bit of experimenting with the exhaust. I painted it black, then mixed ground pastels with thinners and washed it over the piece. It gets lighter as it dries.
Quite happy with it so far. I will get onto the figures soon, when I work out what to use.
Thanks for viewing

I love your build! I have the kit and the same PE you have used and just hope it comes out as good
To prevent silvering I normally airbrush on Future Floor wax which provides a tough gloss surface for the decals. I then cover the decals in another coat of future to blend them into the previous coat. Since the future provides a tough coat over the Tamiya paint, I can do my washes, or use oil paints to cause streaks etc. Once everything is done, I then seal everything with a dull coat.

Thanks Darryl,
One word of warning. Apply the decals before the front bumper, I glued everything on before applying them and it turned out to be a knightmare. Check carefully where all the decals sit before glueing any PE part. You'll see!
Good luck with the Dingo, Great weekend build. What campaign are you setting it in?
You should start a thread like this, give me a heads up if you do.
Thanks

almost finished.
I completely lost the spade that came with the kit!! In the end I had to rob one from a field tools set. I quite like it, looks rough and ready.
I have also added a Bren gun ready for a figure.
Next up, base and figures.
Thanks
Stuart

Hi there
Now then, I have to work out the layout now. I am pretty new to this diorama buisiness and would appreciate any pointers.
I understand the basics; don't have void spaces, have a general objective for the scene, etc, however, I would like your imput before i go any further.
Thanks for following.

Nice job Beaver22!
I like your dio!
You should perhaps give some relief by adding a little tree in the corner behind the Dingo?
I'm currently finishing also the Dingo but didn't use the PE. Your job is very impressive. Congratulations!

Always ask yourself the question "How did this 'get here'?" or "Whould this figure/AFV actually have walked/driven here?"
In your layout it would be "did the Dingo come down the path?", "Did the Dingo back into position?" "Would it have left tracks.."
Questions like these will lead to adding details and repositioning things to add to the believability of the scene. They build a story vs. placing things in good places.

I have finished building the other figure. I had to really dig around for the right arm arrangement. He will be inspecting the tyre of the dingo while his comrade relaxes with a cigarette. However, the quality of the figures leaves somewhat to be desired......Not to mention they look WELL SCARY!!!
For that reason i might resort to using two old resin figures from SKP. Or possibly one of each. I wil lpaint the two figures up to see how they look and for the practice. I have also added a wall to the background which i will blend into the groundwork later.
I have some stowage to attach to the back of the Dingo and use in the diorama. Any suggestions on colour for the bedroll?
More to come

Hi there
Well it has been a long week, with two festival dates for the band I'm in. Came back from Beach Breaks Live looking rather redder that when I left!! Has been ace though.
I have almost finished the Dingo. I have scaled down the base and included some stowage. I used one of the figures from SKP and the wall was from an Italeri kit. I have worked hard on the stowage, drilling and glueing extra detail pull cords on the sleeping bag and straps on the bag.
All that is left is to add some dust to the brickwork and add stretched sprew aeriels.
Thanks for all of your help throughout, what do you think so far?
Kindest

Your dingo looks really good and I really like the Skp figure. One thing I would replace is the chain tying down the stowage, you actually don't see many chains on WW2 afvs and a chain that big would be awkward to secure around stowage.

Very nice build. However, I've never seen full-size copper chain. It would probably be chromed or nickel-plated steel. It does seem to be overkill for the gear it's securing. Maybe substitute something less heroic--rope or canvas straps?

I like the revised base Stuart, fits the size of the vehicle much better.
As previously suggested, I'd ditch the anchor chain.
