Introduction

Cardboard Boxes - Soda is a new Matho Models diorama set in 1/35. It is item 35073.

Per Matho Models:

Set contains a total of 34 boxes (6 different designs).

Features:

Printed on slightly thickened paper to give you a very realistic appearance.
Inside of the boxes is printed as well with brown cardboard texture, so the boxes can be displayed opened as well.

Matho Models packs two sheets of soda cartons in each package. The paper is slightly slick. It is easy to cut and bend.

Printing

Four soda brands are printed:

Coke
Coke Zero
Fanta
Pepsi
Schweppes

The Coke products come in three different styles of cartons.

Printing is very sharp and the colors look like the real cartons in my house. I like that a cardboard color is printed on the inside of the carton. The printing is legible.

Assembly

To assemble the boxes, carefully cut them from the sheet. Very fine subtle lines show where to fold the boxes and cut the side flaps. Use a sharp blade and a metal straightedge. If the modeler makes a slight mistake in cutting or folding, the box may be slightly out of square. No sweat - the soft drink carton I bought today is catawampus.

Next, fold the sides inward. Fold the segments over. Then glue the end tab into the box. I used common white glue.

Behold! The box is complete!

Conclusion

Cardboard Boxes - Soda by Matho Models is another excellent 1/35 accessory set for modelers of the modern era. I don't recall if soft drink companies started boxing their cans in the 1990s or early, and yet these drink boxes scattered around a vehicle or diorama will definitely put a time stamp on the scene.

Matho Models printing is excellent. Their subtle fine lines to guide cutting and folding are also excellent. These cartons assemble easily.

I do not think there are any drawbacks to this product and I happily recommend them.
