Coming soon from Tamiya, a couple of familiar looking tanks, and maybe something new.
Listed on the Tamiya USA website as coming soon are two familiar looking Japanese Tanks, Type 1 and Type 97. Again it looks like Tamiya is continuing with the re-release of older kits. There is not a lot of detail or release date at this time. But, also listed as coming soon is a modern US Figure and Accessories kit, that for me does not look familiar as a set. I do beleive it is a combination of some older kits combined into one set.

35095 - Japanese Type 1 Kit
35137 - Japanese Type 97 Late Version (no image available)
89772 - 1/35 U.S. Modern Elite - Infantry w/ Accessory

Hopefully we see something "New" from Tamiya soon.

Still not impresses. The Elephant is already kitted by twp companies (Dragon and Italeri) and both are good. I don't see the point in another when lots of great vehicles have never been made that could be. I think Tamiya has lost the edge on models.

Didn't Tamiya recently put out one of the Fine Molds WWII Japanese tanks (can't remember which, the Chi-Nu or Chi-Ha Shinhoto), which are considerably better than the old Tamiya kits? The late Type 97 and Type 1 may well be the Fine Molds kits rather than the Tamiya antiques. OK, so they're not new, but if they are the Fine Molds kits it they'll likely be substantially cheaper (since they're coming via Tamiya USA) than the Fine Molds kits have cost in the past.

Are those figures new for the Type 1? I have the old kit in the closet but don't remember those exact figures. ~ Jeff

Thanks! I was too lazy to dig it out and even though I have built it too (slept since then) I never did figures so I didn't know. ~ Jeff

Not too surprising, a bunch of old releases although if the price is right they may prove popular. the modern US kit is the old ICM figure kit combined with the rather ancient Tamiya "Modern Battlefield Accessories" kit, which although useful (the gas cylinders, tools, etc.) the two included AFV figures are more appropriate for a 1980's/90's scenario.

Well at least they are re-releasing what despite their age are still a very good pair of armor models.

Would love to give these kits another go , with PE and AM track etc . I'm sure my building & painting skills have improved in the 30 plus years since I built them the first time ( or maybe not ).Just can't see paying big bucks for old kits , hope they price them reasonably .

Some said a while ago that they had a JGSDF Type 10 at their HQ- I reckon a 1/35 Type 10 would be a very welcome announcement at Shizuoka.
