I remember photos of that build. Largest Bailey bridge build in 50 years and a beaut, too. I've always wanted to build a Bailey as a triple-triple and the artile I have on that build is one of the best references around. Paul

I'm assuming you mean build in the model sense, cos no one in their right mind would WANT to build bailey, for pleasure, for real!!? Even with a crane. MGB yes, cos most bits are a 3 man lift, but baileys a top heavy pig that wobbles around when you walk with it, even an a flat training ground. Even a sway brace is a 2 man job.

Hi Jon, Of course you can build Bailey for fun....my first 'Fun Build' was back in '92 in Hameln we did it prior to our deployment to Bosnia, our SSM told us it was a fun build who were we to argue. The triple triple was built using two CRAARVs two Cranes and 37 Field Squadron. You are right they are a pig to assemble all components are heavy the panels are six man lift, Transoms....can't remember. We tried booming it by hand and gave up and the LWT helped! Many if not all of the photographs of that build are mine, including the one that made the front cover of Sapper Magazine. The only hiccup was the original home bank needed extra work owing to the underlying home bank. Brian

Ha ha, well I arrived at 37 in '92. It was then deemed not to be the bad boy squadron and they posted non bad boy personnel in.......That went well...we had a fearsome reputation within the Regiment/Corp and funnily enough deployed first for the Gulf and then for Bosnia so we must have had some good points! I read the review on that kit. So is the clean up really that bad? I was looking at possibly the M1 kit as the M2 version is the US type. ~ Jeff

Hi Jeff, I've not seen the M1 kit, the main issue is that the main panels are too short and you didn't get enough Transoms or any sway braces. The original M2 was a funny kit as it wasn't one thing or the other, you needed more transoms and decking to build a longer bridge. In the end I worked out it would be better to scratch build the entire thing. Brian
