Biggles2 Your right. Balsa Foam is not new but very difficult to get in Europe until now. When you finished a project you can use the "Porefiller" or you can use thinned (with water) PVA glue as a first base before you start painting.

€18,50 for shipping one piece that weigths next to nothing? Ouch. Double ouch considering I managed to find US seller that doesn't charge much (I couldn't believe it myself either) and it cleared customs without being opened.

someone producing the stamps that you could make the cobbles etc from as in one of the photos here would be real bonus as well

for that is pretty easy i made my own with Evergreen Shapes or PE scrap

Extremely difficult to get in Australia these days. Only place I know off that stocks it is cavalier art supplies. If you want something similar to the firm balsa foam(a little firmer I believe), at a significantly cheaper price, go to Bunnings and get some knauf insulation board. It's made of XPS, which is a common sculpting medium, and comes in 2 thicknesses.

Model railroaders have been using a form of this for years-- just by buying meat products in their grocery store-- the styrofoam trays that meats are packaged in can be used for the same purpose, they carve and glue well, and can be painted with a variety of paints either by brush or aribrush.
