Did not know this one ever existed. Was the trailer detachable in the normal sense or was it a semi-permanent fixture?

The older type seems to have been semi-permanent. The trailer has landing legs but it is not a normal turntable-kingpin combination so the older trailer would not fit another tractor unless something was rebuilt or replaced. I would be willing to bet a penny that the gooseneck trailer was also some variant of semi detachable, maybe reused the same attachment system: The "tower" standing on the fifth wheel in the image above looks the same as in the image on Thunder Models web-page showing the other trailer type. / Robin

The trailer used the same attachment to the tractor as the early trailer. To the best of my knowledge, the gooseneck trailer was simply a way to reduce the angle of the trailer bed and make it slightly more stable, and as well to reduce the height when carrying taller American-built tanks like the Grant
