Green Stuff World presents a new Ultraviolet resin for water effects.
It is a one-step gel with crystal transparency. Squeeze this product straight from the bottle onto your diorama or miniature base to create beautiful replicas of the sea, rivers, lakes, ponds or puddles. It has a multitude of advantages over other traditional ways of creating water effects:
  • Ultrafast drying gel. This product can be combined with a UV Torch to dry in 2-4 minutes. On a sunny day, the gel has a drying time of 5-10 minutes. On a cloudy day, 20-40 minutes.
  • Can be dyed. The UV Resin can be mixed with any GSW inks to dye the gel with only a few drops, allowing to create different types of water, such as bogged swamps or radioactive lakes!
  • Doesn't shrink. The UV Resin doesn't shrink like other water replicating materials. The quantity of resin used is the quantity of resin you get when fully dried.
  • Multilayer friendly. In case you want to create the effect of submerging something in water, multiple layers can be placed on top of each other without leaving layer marks.
  • Can be cut, polished and worked easily. The resin is easy to manipulate and can be shaped and carved however you want!
  • Low smell and toxicity compared to more traditional methods.

it is available in 17ml and 30ml bottles.

That looks and sounds impressive-particularly the absence of layering marks when building up depth, but not going to be cheap if its only available in 17ml bottles

I'm sure bigger bottles can be had.... I've seen transparent blue resin available for the SLA/UV 3D printers......

30 ml bottle is 7.85 euros: LINK Not bad considering this is similar to the resin used in dentist office. Of course, it will be more coming across the continent.

[/quote] Which means it's cheaper to buy from an art store or ebay, and you can get 200g bottles. So it's received the "slap a hobby label on it and jack up the price" treatment.

I'm with Iain on this one: the price would be stupendously outrageous for anything involving more than a 1/35 scale puddle! The 1/350 destroyer on base that I completed a while back probably would have cost less than the resin for the simulated ocean base.
