With the release of AFV Club's M5a1 (Early) in 1/35th scale, there are several variants which can now be explored. Here are the latest M5a1 Update/Conversion sets from Tiger Model Designs.
Following on from the previous releases, the attention now turns to the M5a1 (LATE) and a means of addressing the slight errors in the turret hatches:
24301 - M3A3/M5/M5A1 Corrected Turret hatches (AFV Club): $8.50
The M3A3/M5/M5A1 Turret Hatch Correction kit provides you with the corrected hatches, as well as the front and rear turret roof with the needed lip, the center divider missing in the AFV CLUB kit, and a piece of plastic strip so you can finish adding the “lip” to the sides of your kit turret walls.
24416 - M5A1 Late Replacement Turret (AFV Club) : $27.50.
Now you can build the late M5A1 with the side MG armor and collapsible .30 cal MG and mount. The turret shell is a one piece casting, so you do not have to deal with the headaches of trying to line up the AFV kit pieces. Also included is TMD 24301 M3A3/M5/M5A1 Corrected Turret Hatches and center divider so you wont have to deal with these problems, either. The grouser attachments are cast onto the side of your turret shell and provided assembled grousers. So, all you have to do is glue the grousers in place. Then there is the MG mount assembly. This little assembly is complete – right down to the tension spring mounted inside the forward part of the armored shield.
