The KV1 in 1/48th scale, is in it's original Russian guise, but as most people know there is a demand to depict captured vehicles in German markings. Not so easy with the KV1 as to do this needed new parts, and whilst this is relatively easy in 1/35th scale due to the large number of spare parts most modeller's accumulate over time, it's not so easy in 1/48th. Hauler to the rescue!
the set
Hauler produce high quality update sets, and if they need to include resin parts in their sets to have them complete, then they'll do so. And so it is with this set. What we actually get is a small photo etched fret containing tool clamps (of the German sort obviously!), a small decal sheet containing three small balkencreuz and two numbers 'H08', and a large number of resin parts.
The resin parts in this set are supplied attached to four small pouring blocks and are easily removed leaving a minimum of residue to clean from the part. What we actually get are parts to depict the KV1 in capture German service such as a small length of track to act as spare track links on the rear deck, four towing eyelets, an axe, a spade, and a new cupola with separate half hatch parts, a new jack of the German variety, which comes in three parts. Everything is extremely well cast, no air bubbles whatsoever, and will look great once installed!
conclusion
An extremely useful, and well-produced set from Hauler that will allow the modeller to display his KV1 as a captured vehicle in German service. Everything you need in one set, and recommended!
SUMMARY
Hauler continue to enhance their reputation with this conversion set to turn a Russian KV1 into a Pz.Kpfw KV-1 753(r). Resin cupola and tools, decal sheet and a small photo etched fret make a fairly complete package!

It has to be said that with the addition of the rear rack, they could probably re-package this as an update/conversion set for the Tamiya KV2. It might, on reflection be even more useful for the (forthcoming) HobbyBoss KVs...
