KV-1 1942 Simplified Turret

Nice build Bill.there is nothing wrong with the link and lenght tracks.just count the tracks on the sideview drawing,and then take of one link of each side.these should be the ones that go over the sprocket wheels.it is a mistake in count by trumpeter .then they will sit fine.gotta love these KVs series.here is a pic of my small turret version. greetings jeroen,.

Sure thing! First they were painted with MM Non-buffing Metalizer Gunmetal, then lightly drybrushed with MM Steel. After that I applied a wash of 90-10 thinner-paint MM Rust wash with a large brush (only get one pass as the metalizer isn't very durable) and then lightly stippled some Burnt Umber where the wash was too bright. Jeroen, Thanks for the info, will definitely remember that for the rest of the series. These beasts have a massive quality to them that's appealing to me and Trumpeter did their best to stretch the series as far as possible, but for the price I'm not complaining. :-)

Very nice build. I'm glad to see from the discussion that I'm not the only one who had fit problems with the link and length tracks. The quality on this series was excellent and I hope it means that trumpeter will continue to improve their kits. For the money you can't beat them.

Cavalry, Not sure but likely to be one of the KV-2s when I get to it. I've got some nice LionRoar stuff for it that I think will dress it up nicely. Charlie, Can't argue with you there, Trumpeter priced these little beauties perfectly to suck me in!

Hey Bill As an old guy getting in to Armor Building I want to thank you for this Thread as well as your excellent Build Logs, a really great help for technique as well as a insight into the quality of the kits you do. What`s up next ?? Hopefully one of the DML Tigers Rich L.

Richard, Very kind of you and encouraging to hear you get a benefit from the logs. It started out as a way for me to keep track of what I was doing with certain kits and just kind of grew from there, so I'm glad to hear my ramblings are helpful to others. I have 4 of the DML Tigers in the stash and will likely take on one of the Initials in the near future, probably within next 6 months depending on how the mood strikes me from one project to the next. Next project is going to be Alan's Flakpanzer 38(t) "Gepard", the Holiday weekend is a prime opportunity to start on it I think.

Way cool weathering job! I like the weathered/dusty look on the track guards - a good transition from the green paint of the tank to the dirt. I am particularly taken with the look of the tracks - they have a very realistic appearance! Good job!!!
