Modest Sabotage

The Finishing Touches

To provide a more color and balance, I added quite a bit of green foliage along the top of the back wall, using Woodland Scenics “Green Shrubbery”. I touched the tips of a yellow paint to various points, giving a nice impression of small flowers in bloom.

Glue was applied in the crease where the wall and road join, and a diluted wash of white glue was painted over the road. Then a dark green lichen was crumbled up and blown into the glue. The lichen adhered lightly to the roadway, to indicate the type of growth typically found in a less traveled road, and near the base of the wall, where the glue was heavier, it appears to show weeds creeping through the cracks.

The actual base for the scene was made by pouring plaster of Paris into the lid of a pastry cover. It provided a long narrow shape, and the ridged edges provide an eye-catching touch. Felt material was applied to the bottom to keep it from scratching furniture. The overall time to complete this diorama was about 55 hours. This unit will go into the private collection of a new client.

Great dio, this the kind of dio that tells his own story..... you could hear the pointing German say someting to his brother in arms (what it is differs from the viewer offcourse).... I just love how people are able to tell a story in such a small place. Thanks for sharing Keith and Jim !!

I like this dio a lot, it reminds us that we don't always need a tank in a scene :-) Keep up the excellent work Keith Roger

Thanks Roger... the other lesson is that you can often create "civilians" from less important military uniformed figures, particularly when they are plastic kits. I do find that they work well, althought a Hornets head or two comes in handy!
