QF 25 pdr Mk III

The QF 25 pounder Mk III is one of the guns that I along with others are in the process of restoring to full working order. This is one of the rarest of the 25 pounder variants that were manufactured and is identified by four main features;
  • The short axle.
  • The reduced width of the gun shield.
  • The reduced diameter of the ground plate.
  • And the split trail that allows the gun to obtain higher elevations.
Most of these guns had muzzle brakes fitted long after being manufactured and there is some argument as to how this was done. It is not clear if it is a new barrel sleeve that was threaded or an extension to the barrel sleeve.
