This is great stuff Darren. I have the AA kit and was unsure about a few of the details. You've pretty much cleared up anything I was unsure about with these photos.
I do have one question for you. I noticed that some of the posts for the frontal impact armor have what appear to be plastic composite sleeves of some sort stacked on them. Is this normal, or were these something that were added for some kind of protective/safety purpose?

If I understand your question correctly the plastic on some of the bars I believe is just to retain the cross bars at the correct height and stop them slipping down.

Very good then. I was under the impression that the cross bars were tack welded in place. Your thought makes more sense if the system is to remain collapsible for storage. Thanks

That's correct.
The plastic tubes are for getting the metal plates at the correct distance.
The vertical bars are hammered down into pre made holes in the front armour and then the plastic tubes and metal plates are placed in a special order.
