IWM Duxford Military Vehicle Show

Introduction

Going down to Duxford in June has become a regular annual event for me. My prime purpose is to see the vehicle display and visit The Miniature Armoured Fighting Vehicles, UK National Championships and meet some of the vendors and fellow modellers.

This year the programme included Living History Groups, an airborne assault display, the UK Tank Club Display, MAFVA Nationals as mentioned, The Military and Aviation and Naval Book Fair, pleasure flights, Burma Mule Living History Group[ and Veterans, Tank Rides, Duxford Radio Society Display, the Cavalcade of military vehicles and various History Group Talks.

If you add to that access to the various museums on site already then you can have a fairly packed day and in truth there should be something for just about every one interested in past history and WW2.

Although I have been to Duxford many times not there are still areas of the static museums and displays I have yet to get to.

Fortunately the weather held up but I felt the prospect of rain and the changes in the economy meant that numbers were down on last years show. I could be wrong but I just didn’t think it was as busy as last year.

Similarly on the vehicle display front, there didn’t seem to be as much variety or as many vehicles as last year but again that could just be my perception. There was I believe a large increase in the number of Willys jeeps that showed up!

I missed out on the Duxford Radio Society demos which I would like to have gone to but then again I didn’t read the programme fully lol, lol. This feature is but a snapshot of what was going on and this year. I spent a lot more time looking at the MAFVA show than I normally do.
