Shawn Enloe shares with us a walk around of an M4A1 Sherman Tank located at the Fort Lewis Military Museum, in Washington State. Museum and which is open to the public.

The venerable Sherman was the mainstay of U.S. Armoured Forces during World War II. Rugged and reliable, over 49,000 Sherman’s were produced in various models during the course of the war. Medium Tank M4 as a replacement for the M3 Lee and Grant medium tanks. On 18th April 1941 the U.S. Armoured Force Board chose the design known as the T6. The T6 was a modified M3 hull and chassis, carrying a newly designed turret mounting a 75mm main gun. This became the Sherman. The T6 prototype was completed 2nd September 1941 and production of Sherman tanks began in February 1942. The M4A1 had a cast hull and the majority were armed with a 75mm gun, but later in the war, some were fitted with a 76mm gun to better combat German armor. Sherman tanks saw action in WWII, the Korean War, and many other regional conflicts the world over, to include service during the Indo-Pakistani War in 1971.
