Double Trouble

diorama
I built the diorama on a 80x20 cm wooden base. My aim was to use maximum models and plantation in a limited area. I carved thick styrofoam as the vertical wall of the hill.I placed a few rocks on the styrofoam and covered all with modelling clay forming rocks in different sizes. I detailed the slope adding small rocks, soil, small roots taken from a pine tree and self-made small trees using thin wire, modelling clay and plastic leaves . The wall with the tunnel entrance is made in the same method. As the walls dried,I airbrushed them in Humbrol 29 matt Dark earth and gave a black wash. Using drybrush method; I simulated rocks in Testors 1730 Flat Gull gray and turf effect in Dark earth and burnt green. I added more vegetation and small roots on the ground, sprinkled turf and fixed all with hair spray.

I used a thinner styrofoam layer than I used as vertical wall to save the height of hill. After cutting it in size , I used the soldering iron tool to make a long groove as the road by melting the sytraphore . I filled the groove with slow drying plaster .As it dried, I carved the plaster with a nail to make the cobblestone. I covered the side of road with a thin layer of modelling clay and added some vegetation.

Tunnel entrance can easily be made of carving plaster too but I prefered the easy way using a company product. It is Faller Tunnel entrance for Railroad modelers. I fixed it in place I prepared in former steps, glued with PVA glue and painted-washed-weathered in same methods.Debris closing the entrance is made of brick and concrete pieces broke into pieces with a hammer and glued with PVA glue.

After all, I airbrushed the whole diorama base in Humbol Dull cote and hairspray.

conclusion and thanks
This was really a fun built for me with the excellence of Famo kit and experience I had on making larger size dioramas. I learned good scenes can also be created using cheap or natural materials.

Thanks to Steve Keegan (WeWillHold) for contacting me on making this as a feature and Engin Kayral (Graywolf) helping me on translations and resizing photos.
