10 Years On - A Modellers Tale - Part 2

Forward

About 5 year ago I did a feature entitled Sherman’s Advance - A Modellers Tail. It covered my efforts during that period and I said I'd come back five years later with an update. The 12th of August 2015 sees me into my 10th year back into modelling and my joining the site here on Armorama.

It’s hard to believe that the time seems to have passed so quickly. What has been amazing in the past 5 years is the sudden increase in available 1/35th scale Allied kits. Subjects only dreamed about suddenly come two by two and the quality and level of detail by many manufacturers is simply amazing.

I am still playing catch up from 30 years ago and the current build pile will probably see me through until the eyes and hands stop working or I pop off into the great beyond.

I’ve got a tremendous amount from the site both in terms of help and critique and I’ve given a little back in return. So far I’ve submitted 174 feature articles, taken part in 18 campaigns and reviewed 376 products.

The results of the last 5 years labour both good and bad are attached below. So here’s to the next 5 years, thanks to all who make this hobby so much fun. The photographs included in the article were taken at the time of the builds and are what they are some good some not so good.

Armour

Oddly enough I haven’t built much armour in the last 5 years. I reworked the Pinky I did as a 9th QRL Sherman and added a couple of CDL Tanks with a future project in mind. I also did the Accurate Armour conversion for the Crusader Mk II Gun Tractor. I had fun doing the MiniArt Valentine and the most recent addition has been the Tamiya Mk IV (Male).

Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Hi Rick and Mike, Again thanks for looking in. The great thing about modelling is the constant learning process. Even after 10 years each new build brings a new beginning, a new challenge. Cheers Al
