Damn it is Cold

Stephen Armstrong shares with us some images of his diorama featuring a Dragon Models Coelian in 1/35th scale.

This is a Dragon kit with a couple of modifications, first the kit barrels were replaced with ones from RB Models, and very nice they are to. Stephen also added anti-aircraft armour to the rear deck from etch which he had in the spares box from a previous kit.

The build was as per the instructions and once complete it was time to think about the painting, as we know the Coelian was a paper Panzer and never built except for a wooden mock-up of the turret, so this allowed Stephen a bit of artistic licence . Most pictures he has seen during his research faze of the Coelian had it painted in the standard three tone scheme, but he wanted something different so heI went for a what if winter look. The turret was given a primer red coat first then some white angled stripes added over the top, the rest of the vehicle was standard three tone.

Painting and weathering was done in the usual way and once complete Stephen added a camouflage net skirt to the sides and back using surgical gauze and painted it white. The figures are from Dragon Models also, and I think go nicely with the scene. The base is a MiniArt offering and the trees are up turned roots from a walk in the woods. finely the whole scene was sprayed with hair spray and doused with baking powder to simulate the snow, as for the rest a picture paints a thousand words as they say enjoy.

Great work Stephen, interesting and slightly unusual choice of subject. Did you find many reference sources for this vehicle and the Units it was allocated to?
