Dragon Panther D

  • move
The kit is Dragon #6428 Panther D with Zimmerit. John built it straight out of the box with no after market added (it didn't need any!). The decals are by Echelon, camo is Tamiya acrylics with the tracks painted with Floquil RR black with some white added to make a good dark gray suitable for that application. It represents a late model Panther D a couple of months after Kursk (the Panthers in that fight did not have zimmerit). The late "D"s had some improvements that the early one's that were used at Kursk did not have.

I like very much the camo painting and generally the whole assembly. I'm not sure about the national marking though. The full white cross was replaced since Polish campaign or early French campaign. Of course, are all kind of oddities, especially late in the war. Gabriel

Thanks! I wasn't too sure about the white cross either but that's how it was supplied and shown on the decal instructions. etc. So I went ahead and used it.

For those of you who don't know John, he is master aircraft modeler in 1/32nd scale. You can see his work over on Large Scale Planes. I'm trying to persuade him to post something on our sister forum, Aeroscale.
