1 72 German Siegfried Railgun

  • move
This model of the Siegfried rail gun in 1/72 scale is 18 inches long, and is the fourth railgun I have built. I call them scratch builds as apart from the Leopold bogies that have to be altered plus a few other parts they are scratch built. The bogies need two sets of wheels added to the Leopold bogies and alter to size. The gun barrel front was turned by a friend, the rear part and breech was enlarged using kit parts, filing all detail off, and wrapping sheet plastic round then adding braces and all other detail The breech was made in the same manner. The body of gun was made from sheet plastic needing three panels for each side(see pics),and built as the full size gun, other parts from Leopold were altered and used as the full size gun. After building the gun I decided to have a different base than usual and scratch built a Vogell turntable that was used with these guns to turn in any direction, but without modelling a full circle on the base.

Hold on, the gun goes up and down, and the whole thing rotates on a section of turntable?? Mark, see you at the basket weaving website. I like the big contrast between the base foliage colours and the grey of the structure.

Excellent and inspiring work! Also curious as to the figures as I've been looking around for 1/72 artillery crew. Are these Preiser? Cheers
