Kelly's Heroes

This vignette was done by Luis Miguel Garcia and Juan Francisco Estevez Piriz. The guys used the Sherman Motley crew set. from Oniria Miniatures, and the tank is built using several models of Hobby Boss Shermans. Check out all the tank’s little details compare with the movie. Amazing!!!

One of my all-time favorite movies. The only thing that seems to be missing is the section of pipe to convince people they're mounting a 90mm.

I just went thru my dvd copy of the movie and the only time you see the pipe is at the beginning when Oddball is introduced. At the battle of the rail yard none of the tanks have the pipe, unless they are already placed over the 76mm barrel and it doesn't look like it. Same when the tanks and Kelly link up in the rain and at the river fight when two of the Shermans are knocked out. The scene depicted by this model with Kelly at the .50 is when they are entering the town and fighting the tigers. No pipe is seen so this is a fairly good representation of the tank in the movie except the ones in the movie has more of a faded/blueish tinge to the O.D. paint. But it looks good.

Well, that's a fair put. I was aware of that, but considered it to be a continuity goof in the movie (there are plenty of them). Or maybe the pipe just fell off the tank shortly after leaving depot. In any event, was not meaning to detract from this very fine build.

I'm gonna go with the assumption that the pipes have been slipped over the 76mm which is why they aren't seen after the first part of the movie. That way continuity is preserved.

We can go with that explanation (although it doesn't seem like it's producing much visual effect if that is so). I did just noticed something in the stills I had not picked up on before: In the scene in the depot in which the pipe is visible the loud speaker appears on the right side of the tank, but in all subsequent scenes it's on the left side...

Well hell, let me fire up the dvd player and I'll get back atcha.

They also had problems keeping track of stowage on the engine deck and rear of Oddball's tank . When they were racing through the villages heading for the Bank , stuff keeps disappearing and then reappearing again! I just love older movies

Ok so here we go. After watching the various scenes with the tanks again, stopping to put in some new plumbing in an old bathroom, going to the post office to get new model from china (big box bigger grin) taking kids home from school, going to a little league baseball game for one said kid, hitting the home depot then the deli counter at the safeway, I can safely say: Yes, the loudspeaker does change sides from when Oddball is introduced to where the tanks roll out of the tunnel to attack the rail yard. From then on the loud speaker is on the left side of the turret. As for the moving stowage, well you take some off, you put some on, some you lose some you find. Whatever Oddball was smoking musta got passed around to the whole movie crew.
