KV 88

While surfing the web recently Stephen came across an unusual photo of an 88mm gun mounted on a T34 and thought 'mmm', so a plan was hatched.

Having checked his stash to his surprise he did not have the T34 but he did have a Trumpeter KV1 , and a Dragon 88 so he was in business . The KV1 chassis was built as per instructions with no problems, once done he cut to size some floor plate plasti card and used it to cover the hole where the turret would go, he also made a platform for the crew using some h beam and the left over floor plate. The ammo rack was a left over from a KV2 kit (he knew it would come in handy sometime) and that was attached also.

The KV was put aside while he started on the 88, this is quite an extensive kit with aluminium barrel, brass shells etc , etc. The kit gives an option of 3 different shields choosing the 3rd one which is classed as extended just because looks cool, once the gun build was complete it was set aside and he returned to the KV chassis and time for painting.

It was primed with grey primer and then checked over for any blemishes before adding preshadeing , once done Russian green was applied followed by high lights black and brown washes and some pigment powders, floor plates where painted red brown then rubbed over gently with some pencil dust to give a metallic look. Once complete he was ready for the gun , adding some colour variation so this was painted in the usual dark yellow with a small cam pattern on the shield, once dry the gun was mounted to the chassis and fixed in place.

The vehicle was now complete minus smaller items shells and stowage boxes etc which wer painted and added later. At this point while he was waiting on other items to arrive which were a MiniArt base and the Tamiya Kublewagen set with staff officers.

When the items arrived they were built and everything was brought together, and all from a single photo.

That "old photograph" has been deemed "photoshopped". Nonetheless, I like the build, very nice.
