This diorama depicts a Panzer Beobachtungswagen IV (artillery observation vehicle) and a Hummel of the 2nd SS Panzer Artillery Regiment at the start of Unternehmen Fruehlingserwachen (Operation Spring Awakening) around Lake Balaton, Hungary in March 1945. The models (extensively modified) are both from Dragon while the figures are a mixture of Dragon and Alpine. The base is a spare Ikea shelf and the groundwork is spackle. The paints used were LifeColor and Model Master. The fence, wheelbarrow, trees and foliage were all scratch built. The cat came from Industria Mechanika.

I love the diorama. Wonderful work on the little details and the overall presentation. The addition of the figures really make this scene top notch. Out of curiosity what are the dimensions of your diorama base (L X W)?

The vehicles, figures, and details all look great! The only thing I'm not keen about is the way that everything is in straight lines & perpendicular to the base.

Nicely done! The Pz IV J command tank is very believable trudging through the
mud. Like the Hummel too.

Thanks everyone for your replies and encouragement. From start to finish took me about two years!
Brenton - the base is 16 inches square.
JR - thanks as always. Looking forward to more of your La Gleize vignette - I keep hoping you'll add a tank to one of your dios!
Jack - sorry, that's just the kind of guy I am - all straight lines and right angles (read into that what you will - or not)!
Frank - thanks, the mud took a lot more work than I anticipated!
