About Jim Starkweather (staff_Jim)
FROM: NEW HAMPSHIRE, UNITED STATES

I started building models in 1971 when I was 6. My first model was a 1/32 P-40 Warhawk. Revell I believe. From there I moved onto the standard cars, Apollo spacecraft, and other kid orientated kits. I don't know what got me started on Armor. I must have seen a Monogram tank kit one day and said "Mom...

This kit has the large idler wheel. One recurring problem with Tamiya Tigers is that they never, ever tooled the smaller idler wheel that Late Tigers require. But I don't know what size idler you would find on a Sturmtiger. A brief look at photos suggests that it was usually the large one. Has anybody more information? David

I buit AFV Sturmtiger, after Jim's review AFV is a bit better than Tamiya, AFV has all separate handles and working rear hull round hatch, here all are molded with parts.

Even large idles had been most used you would find small type (AFV has small), depends which you want reproduce given the small number produced. Dario

I'm kind of surprised that both of the rocket launcher parts are molded in 2 part halves, I would of thought that a one piece barrel could be possible in 1/48 scale.

You're right, but there's the twisted rifling that is very visible due the calibre of the barrel and just wouldn't work on a single piece plastic moulding.

I have had the fortune to be provided a sample of this kit for a build review, and I have to say it builds very nicely into an attractive scale model. The link and length tracks I EXPECTED to be a challenge but I was very pleased to say they went together as easily as the rest of the kit. Highly recommended for modellers of all skill levels
