1⁄35Roden Rolls Royce AC

This is the unrefined Roden kit of the Rolls Royce armoured car, with photos from the workbench. A bunch of the usual complaints; sink and milling marks, poor fit, massive seams and tons of pin marks. However, it's a super cool subject and I've never seen one built at a show, so here's mine. Fictitious paint scheme. Added MV lenses, wire handles, new rear steps, wing nuts and tons of putty.
I added a pic of the spectacularly cast figure from Tommy's War. He's a driver and one of the best I've seen, but he scales out to 7 feet 3 inches! I was going to use him, but he dwarfs the AC.

Very nice work and display. I've had this model for several years on the 'waiting list' Your work is very inspiring.

I've heard negative comments about the Roden RR before, and I just don't get it. I built the 1920 pattern kit a couple of years back and had very few issues and certainly no major problem. Its not a Tamiya, but I thought it was a pretty nice kit.
Maybe I just went in with lowered expectations, which made me think more highly of it after I was finished.

You're right in certain respects-- it's not a bad kit, but it has typical Roden issues, the plastic is hard, overscale in thickness, there's a rough bumpy finish on it in places and some flash. There are a few fit issues too. The 1920 RR kit is different from the 1914 pattern in that the wheels are PE, and are difficult to shape, but all these issue can be overcome, and a great model can be made-- as George has done. I personally like the Resicast kit best. The fidelity of scale is better, even though it's resin and more difficult to work with. Side by side, you can see the difference in the "finess" of the parts. The Scale Link kit is in 1/32 (54mm) scale and it's very nice, but it's a little more difficult because it's done in white metal, but it too is very detailed, even though the parts are also a little heavy and thick.

Its a great subject ,too bad its such a bad kit ! I don`t have the time or patience for it . the Russian hobby craft car is the same thing ! why doesnt Tamiya or Dragon , or any "better" manufacturers make these , instead of endless tigers!

Fictitious paint scheme? Whyzzat? Paints to do an accurate scheme not available?

The theme from "Lawrence of Arabia" is sounding in my ears....
The kit isn't THAT bad. See my review here.
