In memory of those killed for freedom
Churchill tank abandoned on the beach at Dieppe. Covered, in part, with gravel carried by the waves.
The tide is advancing. The Germans, inspecting the tank, take shelter...
The water that is advancing because of the tide is made of silicone. The isolated turret belongs to another tank submerged by the tide that is advancing.
The raid on Dieppe took place with Canadians and English. In any case I am thinking about pulling away the isolated turret. The tarpolin on the front covers inaccuracies in the Italeri kit and is made with two-component Milliput filler. The baseplate is cut from clay floor tile, covered with a solution of 40 percent water and 60 percent vinyl glue (PVA), with pebbles crushed and applied to the beach, transparent and white silicone ware applied to form the waves.

It's always nice to see a diorama created with imagination and style, work like this is a real breath of fresh air, well done.

Very original evocation of the terrible Jubilee operation.
"Dieppe" trough the lens from Henry/Pallud is a must read for anyone interested in this tragic failure and a sad lesson about the "total lack of understanding by senior allied commanders concerning (...) employment of tanks in a built-up area"
More than 1 255 allied soldiers were killed (37 civilians) and 1 875 soldiers were wounded or POW.

And its only now, over seventy years later that the real -rather than official- reason is known for the reason behind the raid: capturing a four-rotor Enigma machine. You would think that after the war such could have been shared with the public and mission survivors...

Many thanks Frank for this up-date... is there any recent detailed publication about this "real" target for further extra reading?
Merci
