Semovente 149/40

Chris built this neat little resin kit about a year ago. Very detailed and worth the extra $$. Its a 1/35 Italian Semovente 149/40 SP gun by Brach Models of Italy (kit BM-035). He painted it with Tamiya acrylic paint over a base coat of Model Masters enamel. Chris uses Life Color paints for hand painting some part like mufflers, wheels and gun sights. Then he used Winsor and Newton designers gouache water colors to age the tank. Basically it just water tinted with the paint. Over the years he learned the only way to use watercolors was to have the right base paint on the model. The water will flow over Tamiya Acrylic and get into all the crevices and bead up on most other paints. Water colors are also goof proof, if you don't like it, poof, you can wipe it away with a cotton swab. Chris mainly use the water colors in relief, meaning he covers the entire model and then wipe it all away except the areas he wants to shade, like rivet heads, around doors and hatches, you name it. It also dried perfectly flat, another good side effect. Rust tones and earth tones are added ( water colors ) then finally either pastel dust or Mig pigments.

Very well executed build with a first class finish. Subtle weathering has really brought out the best in the casting. Thank you for sharing your work.

Got this little jewel in the stash, along with its smaller caliber cousin. Got your photos saved that will certainly help with referencing paint schemes of both. Thanx for sharing! Great build!
