Hi guys,

I've just bought the old Italeri kit of the M-114 155mm howitzer and I would like to convert it to a M-114a2 version.
What do I need to do ?
Has anyone some suggestions or does anyone know where to get some pictures ?

Thanks,

Gé Hovens

Hi
Here's a nice A2 :

from honorourvets.org (more pics there...)

I've read that the barrel of the 155 mm M114A2 is slightly longer than that of the M114A1. A key identification feature is the groove that is cut around the outside of the barrel about 50 to 70 mm from the end...

The down side of trying to build a scale 155mm M114 is that the Italeri kit is a repop of the old Peerless Max kit from the 1970's with the metal parts replaced with styrene. Unfortunately, the base kit is overscale, close to 1/30th. It is the only game in town, though, and does look the part. Best bet is to concentrate on the key recognition features and not sweat blood over exact dimensions. Just display it with largish figures.

I was able to get a few detailed pics at the 10th Marines Headquarters at camp lejeune, NC last month. I'll get them loaded in the photo section as soon as I can.

I'm going to try to insert a link :

If that doesn't work, some of the pics are already in the kitmaker photo site in my albums.

The kit does suffer from scale issues as noted. The easiest fix without too much work is adding automotive tires. The ones from Lindburg's 1/20 Chevy S-10 work perfectly. Here are a few pics I hope wil help:

And an old WIP shot:

Too many pictures is always better than too few.
