OK, I have my base cut and am ready to attach the styrofoam to the top of it. What glue is the best? I am at a loss on this. I have liquid nails, hot glue, super glue, and white glue... What do I use? Thanks.

Hi Stephen,
I usually use ordinary white glue, old reliable!
Some solvent base glues such as super glue tend to melt the styro foam. There are various other bonding agents you can use like the ones carpenters use, however it's best to ask some advice at your local DIY store before applying them.
Cheers,Shay

I used a diluted white glue solution.

Thanks. I was just worried that the styrofoam would come off of the wood base if I used white glue. I will give it a try and see.

White glue is the way to go. If the styrofoam and your base have a glossy or smooth surface, make some scores to ensure a better grip!

What I usually do to help ensure a good bond is to tap some small nails (with flat heads) onto the base, protruding a bit. Then I use carpenter's glue (which is stronger than household white glue), press the styrofoam over the nails and place a reasonably heavy object on top of the styrofoam to act as a clamp, but not so heavy that it will compress it. You might also be able to use contact cement or 5-min epoxy. As always, test on scrap first when using harsher products such as these.

White glue. Works wonders and won't affect the 'foam.

Thank you all. White glue it is. I think I will also add a few wire brads in the wood to stick in the foam as well. Just for extra hold.

I use elmers wood glue, but barring that, the old fashioned white stuff does fine too.

Yellow wood workers glue. Elmers, Franklin... whatever your local hardware has.
Significantly stronger than white glue so be sure when you set your base in place. It's not comming off and one piece after it dries.

Thanks all. I used yellow wood glue and drove some wire brads into the wood to help anchor as well. Pretty big diorama. I got it plasterd up, gotta knock off some of the rough spots today and get it painted. When I am done I will post some pics. Thanks for all of the advise.
