Hi Miloslav,
Well, this question was brought up here also not too long ago and th concensus, at that time, was that all Stryker units were fitted with the slat armor upon arriving either in Kuwait or Iraq. Don't know exactly if there were some that were not but, from what I understand, all Strykers in country have always had the slat armor fitted. Someone may know more, of course.
Take care,
Rob

Yes, all Strykers with no exception were fitted with slat armor in Kuwait and prior to crossing the border. No Stryker unit has deployed to Afghanistan and all non-slat Strykers will be seen in a training environment, be it in the US, Germany or South Korea. Hope this helps.

Thanks in your info. I search pics OIF without slat armor because I think that Stryker is very nice vehicle, but without slat armor.

Uh...you may want to try spellcheck, dude.
If I understand your post right, you are saying all vehicles in Iraq had up-armor? If so, I'm sure that there must be some sort of invisible force-field armor out there that I didn't know about. I personally used a number of vehicles that had no additional armor. We lost several good guys in our AO, either because of or in un-armored vehicles. (We had a couple of miraculous survivals too...because if an RPG hits just thin aluminum, it doesn't always detonate.)
I saw many others, from HMMWVs to HEMMTs and M915s on up to HETs, exiting our FOB every day without added armor. During OIF-2 they were just getting the up-armor kits into Theater. There were a bunch of vehicles with homemade 'hadji armor', but there were a bunch without any at all.
The only vehicle (besides tanks) that I know ALWAYS had additional armor is the Stryker.
I'm also a little unclear about what I should thank the 18th Abn Corps for. Please explain.
Chuck
Also an OIF-2 vet, but with pictures and no need to advertise

The new WWP book on the Stryker family of vehicles has some great pictures of Strykers without the slat armor, taken in Germany. They are all in standard forest green, but they are quite dusted up and look more desert sand than forest green..
As already stated, vehicles in Iraq are all issued with slat armor.
About other vehicles in Iraq, most vehicles in high risk zones have some sort of add on armour package, be it official or field mod. But since there are so many vehicles in theatre, I doubt they are ALL up-armoured.
Greetz,
Johan

You got me on the spell check, but when I was there in 2004 serving in Baghdad conducting convoys I too rode in vehicles that were not Up Armor or had Added Armor. My point is, when 18th Airborne Corps took over from III Corps at the end of 2004 they changed the policy making it mandatory for vehicles traveling on the roads in Iraq to be Armored

Not quite. These pictures are from the National Training Center in Fort Irwain, California. You can tell by those orange lights in your second picture. The vehicles use essentially a giant laser tag, and when a vehicle is hit, the orange light lights up. You can also tell because on the Soldier's helmet in the second pic you can kind of see a black "button". That is also a sensor for the MILES system - the "laser tag" system. These are geared up to fire blanks from the .50 cal (seen with those rods that run parallel to the barrel and end up essentially covering the barrel. Sorry, as we said there are NO Strykers in Iraq without the slat armor...period.

And in the top photo, you can just make out the BFA on the .50 cal barrel. Personally, I don't know what the big deal is, if you like it without slat armour, build it without slat armour! Why does it need to be an Iraq vehicle?

Hi there!
Is there a manufacturer who carries slat armor for the Strykers, already? It is also fitted on some Bradleys, if I'm not mistaken. Same question for this vehicle.
Thank you very much.

No there is not. There have been a couple members scratching slat armor on Trumpeter's Stryker. One of them has an active thread, but I'm at a loss trying to find it at this moment.
As for the Bradley, I don't think any slat armor was fielded, though maybe a single unit tested some. Bradleys use explosive reactive armor (ERA) panels. These are explosive charges that explode outward when a rocket hits, negating the incoming warhead. They look like tiles on the sides of the armor skirt, front glacias plate and turret.
Verlinden makes ERA for Tamiya's Bradley in both 1:72 and 1:35.
Hope that helps.

Agree with Jim here. What's the difference? It still IS a Stryker. I can see people wanting to place it in such as "hot spot" as Iraq but unless you want to add the slat armor you just can't build an Iraq war Stryker without it. On the other hand, this is a hobby, so if you want to pretend that your Stryker is an Iraq vehicle with no slat armor, then so be it, it's your choice. I know your builds are usually superior anyway so I know I'll like whatever you produce

when i was up north we didnt roll anything smaller than our 1114's (RV Strykers). non of our HMMWV, LMTV's or FMTV's were up armored and were flatbedded everywhere. hell they were not even allowed off the FOB
i think B. Buriks took those NTC shots of 3/2,
the strykers in germany are stationed in Vilseck, and belong to 2 CR currently they are gearing up for a short notice deployment to the sand box at this time. if you have ever been to graf in the summer time you know how dusty it is, similar to iraq. they are gearing up for 24 hour shifts to put slat on before they head to port.
Miloslav if you want pics of plain strykers, i can send you some as i have100's of them.

Although I followed 3/2 at the NTC these two pics are not mine. I like that second one. Nice detail.

Hi
Just say I wanted to do the new AFV Stryker without slat armour on a small base. If I was wanting to keep it close to the real thing, what uniforms would the guys be wearing in a desert, sandy location. As I know some were just introduced when the Iraq conflict was on.
So what uniform for the crew if no slat armour is on the Strker.
Thankyou
Ryally

Depends on the time period of course in regards to the uniforms. BDUs (woodland camo) and DCUs both could be used in early days of the Stryker.
I took this photo at the NTC in Feb 06 and now we have the BDUs in combination with the new ACUs.

I'm in Baghdad now, (FOB Rustamiyah) have been here since the end of September and I have yet to see any Strykers without the slat armor, although there may be some somewhere.
As for uniforms, maybe 1 in 500 soldiers still wears DCUs, they're still authorized, but the ACU is the uniform of choice, probably because everyone gets at least 4 new sets before they're deployed, alopng with a ton of ACU patterned gear.

Thank you, Jeff. I bought the ERA from Blast models yesterday since I wasn't too pleased with the latest releases from Verlinden.

thats a replacement stryker in port, i of the 3 strykers i received as replacements in Tal Afar and rawah, they were flown into LSA Diamondback with slat already attached.
1/25 SBCT was the last Stryker unit in country to wear DCU's, when 172d SBCT arrived (Sept 05) they had ACU's.
